Risk and Protective Factors of Generalized Anxiety Disorder of Elite Collegiate Athletes: A Cross-Sectional Study

Summary: This study examined the prevalence of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and its risk factors in elite collegiate athletes in China. The results indicated that sport injury, ADHD, and fear of failure were significant risk factors for GAD in this population. Further research is needed to better support the mental health of elite collegiate athletes.

Gender differences in mental health symptoms and risk factors in Australian elite athletes

Summary: The study found that female elite athletes reported higher rates of mental health symptoms compared to males, particularly in experiences of interpersonal conflict, financial hardship, and discrimination. Low self-esteem was consistently associated with poorer mental health outcomes for all athletes. While various factors were linked to poor mental health in male or female athletes, experiencing financial difficulty and social media abuse were uniquely associated with mental health symptoms in men.
