Designing new hybrid artificial intelligence model for CFST beam flexural performance prediction

Ammar N. Hanoon et al.

Summary: Numerous experimental studies have focused on the flexural performance of concrete-filled steel tube beams, but theoretical modeling of these beams remains challenging. This research introduces new numerical models for simulating the flexural capacities of CFST beams under static bending load. The results demonstrate that the proposed PSO-ANN model is capable of accurately predicting the flexural strength and stiffness capacities of CFST beams.

Buckling resistance of concrete-filled cold-formed steel (CF-CFS) built-up short columns under compression

Rohola Rahnavard et al.

Summary: This study investigated the compressive behavior of innovative concrete-filled closed built-up cold-formed steel columns and evaluated the predictions of EN 1994-1-1. The results showed that the EN 1994-1-1 formula overestimated the steel contribution when using the gross area and underestimated it when using the effective area. Therefore, a modified method for determining the effective cross-sectional area of closed built-up cold-formed steel sections was proposed, which achieved a good agreement with the experimental results.

Concrete-filled cold-formed steel (CF-CFS) built-up columns under compression: Test and design

Rohola Rahnavard et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the axial behavior of a new composite column through experimental and computational methods. The study evaluates different configurations of CF-CFS columns and examines the buckling behavior of steel components and the mitigation of local buckling caused by concrete support. Numerical simulations are performed and compared with experimental results, and the effectiveness of current design codes is assessed. The study also includes a reliability analysis and proposes a more reliable design methodology.

A systematic review on CFST members under impulsive loading

Noaman Mohammed Ridha Dabbagh et al.

Summary: Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) have been increasingly used in the construction industry due to their favourable structural performance. Researchers have paid more attention to the response of CFST members under impulsive loading and conducted research to better understand their behaviour. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art research on the structural behaviour of CFST subjected to lateral impulsive loading and identifies the current trends and future research directions.

Experimental Studies on Seismic Performance of UHPSFRC-Filled Square Steel Tubular Columns

Yunbiao Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seismic performance of square steel tubular columns filled with ultra-high performance steel fiber-reinforced concrete. The findings suggest that the seismic performance can be improved by decreasing the axial compression ratio and increasing the width-to-thickness ratio.

Experimental Investigation of Special-Shaped Concrete-Filled Square Steel Tube Composite Columns with Steel Hoops under Axial Loads

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: Special-shaped concrete-filled square steel tube (SS-CFSST) composite columns composed of multiple square steel tubes connected by steel hoops are proposed in this paper, and their structural performance is analyzed. Experimental results show that the load-carrying capacity of the hoop-type specimen is higher than that of the weld-type specimen, and the established finite element model accurately evaluates the mechanical properties of the composite column.

Behaviour of Concrete-Filled Double Skin Tubular Short Column with Plate Stiffeners Welded Intermittently under Axial Compression

Zheng Hao Chang et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental and finite element analyses of stub circular and square concrete-filled double steel tubular (CFDST) columns welded with plate stiffeners under axial compression. The effects of weld spacing and plate stiffener dimensions on failure patterns and load-carrying capacity are investigated. The validated finite element model is used to conduct a parametric study and identify the optimum dimensions for plate stiffeners to enhance CFDST performance.

Analysis of Buckling Deformation for the Side Plate of Rectangular CSFT Column Based on Plate Theory with Bi-Axial Loads

Bing Xu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the buckling deformation of the side plate in a rectangular concrete-filled steel tube column is studied under bidirectional stress. The influences of height-width ratios and Nominal Poisson's ratios on the buckling form of the side plate are investigated through theoretical analysis, experimental validation, and finite element simulation. The study provides a valuable reference for the design and application of CFST columns.
