Study of anisotropy through microscopy, internal friction and electrical resistivity measurements of Ti-6Al-4V samples fabricated by selective laser melting

Adelaide Nespoli et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the microstructural anisotropy and internal stresses of Ti-6Al-4V samples fabricated by selective laser melting using novel characterization techniques. The study reveals the presence of columnar grains parallel to the building direction in the as-built and 850 degrees C annealed samples, while coarse grains characterize the 1,050 degrees C annealed specimens. Internal friction measurements indicate the presence of internal stress, and storage modulus analyses are sensitive to texture. Electrical resistivity is found to be dependent on grain orientation.

Formation mechanism of interfacial microstructures and mechanical properties of Ti2AlNb/Ni-based superalloy joints brazed with NiCrFeSiB filler metal

Haishui Ren et al.

Summary: The dissimilar brazing process and interfacial microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti2AlNb alloy and GH536 alloy joints were studied. Various reaction layers were formed near the Ti2AlNb base metal, resulting in high micro-hardness and weak link of the joint. Through isothermal solidification, a solid solution was formed, and different phases precipitated during the cooling process in the joint region.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of high Nb-TiAl alloy/GH4169 joints brazed using CuTiZrNi amorphous filler alloy

Duo Dong et al.

Summary: A CuTiZrNi amorphous filler metal was fabricated and used for brazing high Nb-TiAl alloys and GH4169 superalloys. The joints brazed at different temperatures showed interfacial microstructures and mechanical properties. The joint exhibited maximum shear strength at 960 degrees Celsius due to intensified element diffusion and thickening of the interfacial reaction layer.
