Barriers and facilitators to uptake and promotion of influenza vaccination among health care workers in the community in Beijing, China: A qualitative study

Mengke Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behaviors and influencing factors of healthcare workers (HCWs) in China regarding influenza vaccine uptake and promotion. The findings showed that knowledge, perception, and prior experience played a role in vaccine uptake, with general practitioners being less proactive in promoting vaccination while preventive health workers were more conservative. The division of work was identified as an underlying reason for the different behaviors between HCWs.

Sijin Yan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that influenza vaccination coverage is generally low among different populations in Shanghai, with common reasons for non-vaccination including concerns about side effects, perceived healthiness without the need for vaccination, and lack of awareness about influenza vaccines. Low education level and lack of awareness were identified as predictors of low coverage rates.

Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of influenza vaccination for elderly people

Yoshiyuki Sugishita et al.

Summary: For elderly individuals with low incidence of influenza, calculating the credible vaccine effectiveness (VE) can be challenging. Current research shows that influenza vaccination for elderly individuals may be cost-effective, but its precise efficacy remains unclear. Studies are ongoing to determine whether influenza vaccination has a high VE for all influenza virus types, and the decreasing effect of repeated vaccination is still debated. Long-term monitoring and analysis are required to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of influenza vaccination for elderly people.
