Structure can predict function in the human brain: a graph neural network deep learning model of functional connectivity and centrality based on structural connectivity

Josh Neudorf et al.

Summary: The study shows that functional centrality can be robustly predicted from structural connectivity, and the graph neural network model has potential applications in this field.

Local structure-function relationships in human brain networks across the lifespan

Farnaz Zamani Esfahlani et al.

Summary: The impact of regional anatomy on brain function is not well understood. In this study, the authors evaluated 40 communication models and found regional heterogeneity in terms of fit and optimal model, as well as variations in regional coupling over the human lifespan.

Network communication models narrow the gap between the modular organization of structural and functional brain networks

Caio Seguin et al.

Summary: Structural and functional brain networks are modular, but the modules in the structural network do not always correspond to the functional systems. By modeling indirect communication, particularly polysynaptic connectivity, we can better understand the modular organization of the brain's functional systems. This suggests that functional modules emerge from the constraints imposed by local network structure and diffusive neural communication.
