Impacts of heater-cooler position and Lorentz force on heat transfer and entropy generation of hybrid nanofluid convection in quarter-circular cavity

Nirmal K. Manna et al.

Summary: This study systematically assesses the impacts of heater and cooler positions in four different quadrantal cavities using hybrid nanofluid and oriented magnetic fields. The analysis considers heat transfer characteristics, entropy generation, and the effects of variables like Rayleigh number, Hartmann number, and volumetric concentration. The study reveals that the mutual exchange of heater-cooler positions does not affect the flow direction, but sidewall plays a role in the formation of circulation vortex. The Lorentz force moderates the heat transfer process, and thermal entropy production is the main driver of thermodynamic irreversibility.

Effect of discrete heating-cooling on magneto-thermal-hybrid nanofluidic convection in cylindrical system

Deep Chatterjee et al.

Summary: This study aims to understand the impact of the position of discrete heaters and coolers on a cylindrical thermal system. By altering the positions and controlling parameters, the heat transfer and entropy production are systematically investigated. The study reveals that the cross-wise heating-cooling arrangement is the most effective option for enhanced heat transfer.

Magneto-hydrothermal convective dynamics of hybrid nanofluid-packed partially cooled porous cavity: effect of half-sinusoidal heating

Milan K. K. Mondal et al.

Summary: An investigation is conducted to study the thermo-fluid flow behavior of Cu/Al2O3-water hybrid nanofluid in a porous enclosure with various half-sinusoidal heating conditions. The study reveals the significant parameters that affect heat transfer, such as frequency, amplitude, modified Rayleigh number, Darcy number, Hartmann number, porosity, and hybrid nanoparticle concentrations. The effect of cooler positions on energy transport is also explored, and the bottom-bottom configuration is found to be the most favorable. The study provides useful correlations for predicting heat transfer characteristics and guiding thermal devices design.

Experimental Investigation on Flow Past an Isolated Micro Pin Fin Embedded in a Microchannel

Can Ji et al.

Summary: The study investigates the flow past an isolated low aspect ratio pin fin embedded in a microchannel using Micro-PIV, revealing the important role of endwall effect and the formation of vorticity concentrations along the shear layer. Three-dimensionalities of the flow are observed at higher Reynolds numbers, with differences in flow characteristics at different heights. The impact of aspect ratio on wake flow and the comparison with flow across micro pin fin arrays are also explored.

Implementation of partial magnetic fields to magneto-thermal convective systems operated using hybrid-nanoliquid and porous media

Nirmalendu Biswas et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the convective heat transfer process can be effectively modulated by adjusting the position, width, direction, and intensity of imposed magnetic fields. The application of a partial magnetic field results in a decrease in heat transfer by approximately 17.15% or 9.71% compared to a horizontal or vertical magnetic field covering the entire length. Local thermo-fluid flow phenomena and heat transfer characteristics are significantly altered by the application of partial magnetic fields compared to those acting over the entire domain.

Abhinav Saha et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of geometric shapes on the thermal performance of convective thermal systems. The comparison between square and circular systems reveals that the circular cavity configuration outperforms its square counterpart in terms of thermal performance and circulation. The analysis concludes that geometric modification is a better choice for achieving superior heat transfer.

Magneto-hydrothermal performance of hybrid nanofluid flow through a non-Darcian porous complex wavy enclosure

Dipak Kumar Mandal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hydrothermal characteristics of an Al2O3-Cu-H2O hybrid nanofluid saturated in a non-Darcian porous complex wavy enclosure under a uniform magnetic field. Numerical simulations show that increasing the amplitude of the undulation enhances heat transfer, but does not always promote the growth of flow strength. Flow intensity and heat transfer increase with the modified-Rayleigh number, while they decrease with the Darcy number and Hartmann number. The local distribution of heat transfer characteristics exhibits complex behavior depending on the amplitude of the undulations and dimensionless numbers.

Summary: The influence of obstruction size and location on buoyancy-driven convection in a concentric annulus is investigated. Numerical simulations reveal that the heat transfer characteristics are significantly affected by the obstruction's size and position, with an optimum block size leading to enhanced heat transfer. This study's findings are important for the design of efficient heat exchanging devices and other technological applications.

Enhanced electroosmotic mixing of non-Newtonian fluids in a heterogeneous surface charged micromixer with obstacles

Sumit Kumar Mehta et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mixing and hydrodynamic characteristics of a pure electroosmotic flow of non-Newtonian fluid through a nonuniformly charged micromixer with obstacles arranged in staggered and inline orders. The results show that the rheology of the fluids and the formation of recirculatory zones strongly influence the mixing efficiency. The presence of heterogeneous charged surfaces enhances the mixing, especially for shear-thickening fluids and staggered arrangements of obstacles.
