Randomized feasibility study of twice a day functional electrostimulation in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease hospitalized for acute exacerbation

Laura Lopez-Lopez et al.

Summary: Pulmonary rehabilitation is effective for individuals with COPD. This study assessed the feasibility and effects of daily vs. twice-daily functional electrostimulation in severe COPD patients. Significant differences were found in strength and symptom improvement, with no adverse events observed. Further research on twice-daily electrostimulation in hospitalized COPD patients is warranted.

Summary: Pulmonary rehabilitation plays a crucial role in improving physical performance and quality of life, reducing hospitalization risks, and enhancing self-care for asthma and COPD patients. However, in the German healthcare system, the provision of pulmonary rehabilitation is limited, despite strong evidence supporting its effectiveness.

Summary: Early pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) has shown to improve exercise capacity and quality of life, but the impact on hospital stay duration and muscle strength may not be significant. Further exploration is needed to fully understand the role of early PR in AECOPD.

Effect of sitting and lying Liuzijue exercise for pulmonary rehabilitation in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients with non-invasive ventilation: a randomized controlled trial

Shunqi Liao et al.

Summary: Sitting and lying Liuzijue exercise significantly improved lung function, exercise endurance, and quality of life in AECOPD patients with non-invasive ventilation. The controlled group also showed improvement in some indicators, but compared to the LG, there were significant differences in pulmonary function, exercise endurance, quality of life, duration of non-invasive ventilation, and the frequency of acute exacerbation within 6 months.

A Feasibility and Efficacy Randomized Controlled Trial of Two Exercise Programs in Severe AECOPD Patients with Resting Hypoxemia

Laura Lopez-Lopez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the feasibility and efficacy of two exercise programs in AECOPD patients with resting hypoxemia. The results showed significant improvements in lower limb strength, balance, and health related quality of life in the experimental groups at the end of the intervention. Conducting an exercise program was found to be feasible and beneficial for these patients.
