Inducing spin-order with an impurity: phase diagram of the magnetic Bose polaron

S. Mistakidis et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the formation and phase diagram of magnetic Bose polaron in a one-dimensional spinor Bose gas. The residue of magnetic polarons decreases significantly with strong impurity-spin interactions. Impurities can be utilized to manipulate spin polarization and suppress spin-spin correlations in the magnetic medium.

Self-stabilized Bose polarons

Richard Schmidt et al.

Summary: The mobile impurity in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is a paradigmatic many-body problem. In this study, we present a solution of the Bose polaron problem beyond the Bogoliubov approximation, including the effect of local repulsion, which stabilizes the Bose polaron below and above the scattering resonance. Our results demonstrate that the dressing cloud replaces the attractive impurity potential with an effective many-body potential that excludes binding, and the polaron energy remains bounded.

Interaction effects of pseudospin-based magnetic monopoles and kinks in a doped dipolar superlattice gas

Xiang Gao et al.

Summary: This study explores the conditions for the coexistence and interaction effects between magnetic monopoles and kinks in an atomic dipolar superlattice gas. It is found that there is a binding effect between the monopole and kink, which alters the dispersion of the kink.

Summary: In this paper, we study the existence, stability, and dynamics of select topological points and line defects in antiferromagnetic, polar phase, F = 1( 23)Na spinor condensates. The results demonstrate the existence of certain solutions and reveal the impact of varying trapping strengths on instability rates.

Hilbert Space Shattering and Disorder-Free Localization in Polar Lattice Gases

Wei-Han Li et al.

Summary: Study shows that in polar lattice gases, intersite interactions severely limit particle mobility and lead to fragmentation and localization of Hilbert space. Future experiments with magnetic atoms and polar molecules can explore the intriguing interplay between disorder- and interaction-induced many-body localization.

Superposition of Emergent Monopole and Antimonopole in CoTb Thin Films

Yao Guang et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional singular point consisting of two oppositely aligned emergent monopoles is identified in continuous CoTb thin films, providing a platform for studying emergent electromagnetism. The observed spin twist seen in Lorentz transmission electron microscopy reveals the cross section of the superimposed three-dimensional structure. This new type of topological defect can be regarded as a superposition of an emergent magnetic monopole and an antimonopole.

Microscopic evolution of doped Mott insulators from polaronic metal to Fermi liquid

Joannis Koepsell et al.

Summary: The research reveals the competition between antiferromagnetism and hole motion in two-dimensional Mott insulators, as well as the transition from an anomalous metal to a conventional Fermi liquid with varying doping levels. Using a cold-atom quantum simulator, the transformation of multipoint correlations between spins and holes is observed to change with increasing doping, with the crossover completed around 30% hole doping. This work provides insights into theoretical approaches and potential connections to lower-temperature phenomena.

Impurities in systems of noninteracting trapped fermions

David S. Dean et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the properties of spin-less non-interacting fermions trapped in a one-dimensional confining potential with one or more impurities modeled by delta function potentials. The method based on the single particle Green's function is employed to calculate the effects of impurities on the Fermi gas density and the effective potential. Results show interesting transitions and modifications in the density and potential when impurities are placed at different locations, such as near the edge of the trap or in the bulk.

Ionic polaron in a Bose-Einstein condensate

Grigory E. Astrakharchik et al.

Summary: The authors investigate the behavior of an ionic impurity in a weakly interacting gas of bosonic atoms and identify two main phases of a polaronic regime and a strongly correlated state with many bosons bound to the ion under weak interactions. The presence of strong interactions in a many-body quantum system can lead to exotic effects, and the competition of length scales in a simple setup can give rise to a highly correlated mesoscopic state. The findings are relevant to experiments using hybrid atom-ion setups in the ultracold regime, showing vastly different polaronic properties compared to neutral quantum impurities.

Polaron Interactions and Bipolarons in One-Dimensional Bose Gases in the Strong Coupling Regime

M. Will et al.

Summary: The article presents a detailed study of heavy polarons in a one-dimensional Bose gas using a nonperturbative theory and exact numerical simulations. Analytic approaches for weak boson-boson interactions and strong impurity-boson couplings were developed, and the interaction potential of heavy polarons was found to deviate substantially from the exponential form in the strong coupling limit. Calculations of bipolaron binding energies for low impurity-boson mass ratios were in excellent agreement with quantum Monte Carlo results, taking into account Born-Huang corrections.

Qubit spin ice

Andrew D. King et al.

Summary: Artificial spin ices are frustrated spin systems that can be engineered to allow the design and characterization of exotic emergent phenomena. In this study, a realization of spin ice in a lattice of superconducting qubits was reported, showing control over a fragile degeneracy point and the demonstration of Gauss's law for emergent effective monopoles in two dimensions. This qubit control paves the way for potential future study of topologically protected artificial quantum spin liquids.

Impurities in a one-dimensional Bose gas: the flow equation approach

Fabian Brauneis et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors extended the flow equations approach to compute observables other than energy for cold Bose gases, specifically focusing on one-dimensional systems with impurities. The results showed that the mean-field approximation is accurate under certain conditions and that perturbation theory fails when boson-impurity interactions are stronger than boson-boson interactions.

First- and second-order quantum phase transitions in the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model with boundary fields

Kun Hu et al.

Summary: Analytical and numerical studies of the one-dimensional transverse field Ising model with boundary fields reveal two types of phase transitions in the ordered state. A first-order phase transition occurs under certain conditions, while a continuous phase transition is identified as a quantum wetting transition under different conditions. Numerical investigations further explore the magnetization profile, correlation functions, and wetting layer thickness in these phase transitions.
