Azole Susceptibility Profiles of More than 9,000 Clinical Yeast Isolates Belonging to 40 Common and Rare Species

Marie Desnos-Ollivier et al.

Summary: Invasive yeast infections are a global public health issue with limited antifungal treatment options. Antifungal susceptibility profiles of 9,319 clinical isolates in France over 17 years showed high susceptibility of common species like Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Candida parapsilosis to azoles, while Candida glabrata and Pichia kudriavzevii exhibited decreased susceptibility. Furthermore, the study provided valuable information on azole susceptibility of rare and emerging yeast species like Clavispora lusitaniae, Saprochaete clavata, and others.

Global guideline for the diagnosis and management of rare yeast infections: an initiative of the ECMM in cooperation with ISHAM and ASM

Sharon C-A Chen et al.

Summary: This article discusses the increasing prevalence of rare yeast infections in immunocompromised or seriously ill patients, highlighting the importance of comprehensive multidisciplinary management. It also addresses the need for region-specific or updated management guidelines, while noting that expert opinions and in-vitro susceptibility results play a key role in treatment recommendations for these infections.

Eradication of Candida albicans Biofilm Viability: In Vitro Combination Therapy of Cationic Carbosilane Dendrons Derived from 4-Phenylbutyric Acid with AgNO3 and EDTA

Natalia Gomez-Casanova et al.

Summary: Candida albicans is a significant human pathogen that is resistant to drugs and forms biofilms, making treatment difficult. This study evaluated the in vitro ability of cationic carbosilane dendrons to eradicate C. albicans biofilms, with the second generation dendron showing promising antifungal activity.
