Analysis of Aging Products from Biofuels in Long-Term Storage

Karin Engelaender et al.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term aging processes of different heating oils and their blends with biofuels. Benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was found to be an effortless and fast analytical technique for the analysis. It was also discovered that the presence of white and waxlike precipitates at low temperatures can lead to system failure.

Quantitative and qualitative analysis of biodiesel by NMR spectroscopic methods

Khalid I. Doudin

Summary: Biodiesel is a renewable, biodegradable, non-toxic fuel typically produced from vegetable oil and animal fat. NMR spectroscopic methods are utilized to investigate the molecular compositions of biodiesel samples, evaluate the transesterification process, and quantify methanol in biodiesel as an alternative to traditional methods.

Low-field NMR-relaxometry as fast and simple technique for in-situ determination of SARA-composition of crude oils

Vladimir Y. Volkov et al.

Summary: A new method based on low field NMR-relaxometry was proposed for in-situ determination of SARA composition of crude oils, which showed good consistency with conventional analysis methods. This method can simplify and accelerate the analysis process for different types of crude oils with a wide range of API gravity and viscosity values.

Use of 1H-NMR spectroscopy, diffusometry and relaxometry for the characterization of thermally-induced degradation of motor oils

C. C. Fraenza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of H-1 NMR spectroscopy, relaxation, and diffusion for characterizing the thermally-induced degradation of fresh motor oils. The results indicate that longitudinal and transverse relaxation are more sensitive to thermal effects, especially when measured at low magnetic fields using fast field-cycling NMR relaxometry.

Dedicated NMR sensor to analyze relaxation and diffusion in liquids and its application to characterize lubricants

Thomas Rudszuck et al.

Summary: The dedicated nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sensor designed for liquid analysis combines properties of single sided NMR with high static magnetic field gradients and classical time domain (TD) devices. It can be easily customized for different investigations and has been demonstrated to be applicable in quality control of lubricants and other liquid products. The sensor shows high sensitivity towards aging of lubricants and changes in molecular dynamics induced by various factors, highlighting its value in quality control applications.
