Visualizing Hot-Carrier Expansion and Cascaded Transport in WS2 by Ultrafast Transient Absorption Microscopy

Qirui Liu et al.

Summary: The excited-state dynamics in layered tungsten disulfide (WS2) were studied using transient absorption microscopy, which revealed the ultrafast hot carrier expansion and its potential in improving carrier harvesting. A cascaded transport model was proposed to explain the carrier diffusion mechanism in this system.

Relaxation and darkening of excitonic complexes in electrostatically doped monolayer WSe2: Roles of exciton-electron and trion-electron interactions

Min Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents photoluminescence measurements in monolayer WSe2, demonstrating the importance of the interaction between charged particles and excitonic complexes. The theoretical analysis highlights the role of exchange scattering in changing the composition of the complex and rendering bright excitonic complexes dark. The study also sheds light on the features commonly observed in the photoluminescence of this monolayer semiconductor.

Effective Negative Diffusion of Singlet Excitons in Organic Semiconductors

Anton Matthijs Berghuis et al.

Summary: Using diffraction-limited ultrafast imaging techniques, the study investigated the propagation of singlet and triplet excitons in single-crystal tetracene, revealing a narrowing distribution of singlet excitons after photoexcitation. This narrowing led to a negative diffusion effect where singlet excitons migrated towards high-density regions, ultimately resulting in a distribution smaller than the laser excitation spot. Modeling of the excited-state dynamics attributed this anomalous diffusion to nonlinear triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA), which may have broad implications for studying exciton diffusion and TTA rates in semiconductors relevant to organic optoelectronics.

Nonclassical Exciton Diffusion in Monolayer WSe2

Koloman Wagner et al.

Summary: Experimental results show a highly unusual exciton diffusion behavior in monolayer semiconductors, where the diffusion coefficient decreases significantly with increasing temperature, challenging traditional descriptions of mobile excitons. The origin of this behavior is discussed in the context of nonclassical propagation and microscopic numerical models.

Non-equilibrium diffusion of dark excitons in atomically thin semiconductors

Roberto Rosati et al.

Summary: Through a joint theory-experiment study, it has been discovered that dark excitons play a crucial role in the spatial propagation of excitons in atomically thin materials. The initial population of dark exciton states by emission from bright states leads to rapid expansion of hot excitons and a transient increase in the diffusion coefficient. These findings are significant for both fundamental understanding and technological applications.

Fast non-ambipolar diffusion of charge carriers and the impact of traps and hot carriers on it in CsMAFA perovskite and GaAs

Hannu P. Pasanen et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the charge carrier diffusion in CsMAFA perovskite and found evidence of non-ambipolar diffusion. The migration of electrons without being hindered by holes challenges the common assumption of ambipolar diffusion in these materials. Additionally, the diffusion deceleration due to traps and grain boundaries after a certain period questions the reported ultrafast diffusion and provides an alternative explanation for the slow cooling observed in perovskites.
