Public health impact of a US ban on menthol in cigarettes and cigars: a simulation study

David T. Levy et al.

Summary: This study simulates the potential impact of a menthol cigarette and cigar ban on public health. The results show that the ban is projected to reduce overall smoking rates by 15% by 2026, as menthol smokers quit or switch to NVPs. These transitions are estimated to decrease smoking and NVP-attributable deaths by 650,000 and decrease life-years lost by 11.3 million from 2021 to 2060.

Mechanisms and Rationale for Targeted Therapies in Refractory and Unexplained Chronic Cough

Stuart B. Mazzone et al.

Summary: Chronic cough is a common medical condition that poses substantial physical, mental, and social burden on patients. Patients with refractory chronic cough (RCC) or unexplained chronic cough (UCC) often exhibit clinical features of cough hypersensitivity. Several targeted therapies for RCC/UCC are currently under clinical investigation, showing potential for precision medicine approach in treating this underserved patient population.

Sedative effects of l-menthol, d-camphor, phenylethyl alcohol, and geraniol

Tomoko Oshima et al.

Summary: This study found that fragrance components added to eye drops such as l-menthol, d-camphor, phenylethyl alcohol, and geraniol have sedative effects on mice. The optimal concentrations for each component were determined, with geraniol showing a biphasic sedative action. This research provides a new perspective on the pharmacological properties of eye drop additives.
