Preparation of carbon quantum dots/TiO2 composite and application for enhanced photodegradation of rhodamine B

Shijie Tong et al.

Summary: In this study, a titanium dioxide-coated carbon quantum dots (CQDs/TiO2) composite was prepared and studied as a catalyst for the photodegradation of rhodamine B (RhB) in water. The composite showed enhanced photocatalytic activity and stability under visible light. The mechanism of the photocatalytic process was found to involve various active species, including holes (h+), superoxide anion radical (.O-2(-)), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and hydroxyl radical (.OH). This work highlights the potential of CQDs/TiO2 composite for the treatment of organic pollutants.

Significantly enhanced UV-light-driven photocatalytic performance of ferroelectric (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3: Effect of corona-poling and particle size

Vidya Spriha Kujur et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the impact of corona-poling and particle size on the photocatalytic performance of (K0.5Na0.5) NbO3 (KNN) ferroelectric powder. The results demonstrate that the KNN-nano sample, with smaller particle size, exhibits better photocatalytic activity. The corona-poling treatment enhances the internal polarization field, leading to spatial separation of photogenerated electrons and holes and thereby providing more time for surface reactions, resulting in improved photocatalytic performance.

Graphene Quantum Dot-Based Optical Sensing Platform for Aflatoxin B1 Detection via the Resonance Energy Transfer Phenomenon

Avinash Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study explores an optical sensing platform for the detection of the important mycotoxin AFB1 in the absence of a bioactive environment. The sensor utilizes a fluorescence-based technique that combines graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and AFB1, where AFB1 acts as the quencher of GQD fluorescence. The sensor demonstrates high selectivity and robustness in complex sample matrices, and has a detection limit of 0.158 ng mL(-1). This innovative sensor represents the first GQD-based optical sensor for AFB1.

Fabrication of graphene oxide/polydopamine adsorptive membrane by stepwise in-situ growth for removal of rhodamine B from water

Xin Wang et al.

Summary: The GO-PDA adsorptive membranes showed efficient removal of RhB from aqueous solutions, with synergistic adsorption effects between GO adsorbents and PDA crosslinker. The adsorption process can be described by Langmuir and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, highlighting a chemisorption dominated process. The membranes also exhibited good reusability in dynamic adsorption/desorption cycles.

Optically-Controlled Quantum Size Effect in a Hybrid Nanocavity Composed of a Perovskite Nanoparticle and a Thin Gold Film

Shulei Li et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskites can exhibit optically-controlled quantum size effect in a hybrid nanocavity composed of perovskite nanoparticles and a thin gold film. By adjusting the laser power, the emission wavelength can be shifted and four optical states can be achieved. This opens up a new avenue for designing novel photonic devices based on perovskite nanoparticles and plasmonic nanostructures.
