Photocatalytic and antibacterial activities of green synthesized Ag doped MgO nanocomposites towards environmental sustainability

Summary: In this study, MgO nanoparticles and Ag/MgO nanocomposites were synthesized using aloe vera plant extract. The green-synthesized materials were characterized using various techniques and were found to exhibit enhanced photocatalytic and antimicrobial activities. The Ag/MgO nanocomposites showed high degradation efficiency of methylene blue and phenol, as well as effective killing of E. coli bacteria. The findings suggest the potential of these green-synthesized materials for environmental and medical applications.

S-Scheme BiOCl/MoSe2 Heterostructure with Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity for Dyes and Antibiotics Degradation under Sunlight Irradiation

Summary: Semiconductor photocatalysis is a promising technique for completely eliminating organic pollutants in wastewater. S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts, such as BiOCl/MoSe2, have shown high solar efficiency, superior charge carrier transfer efficiency, and strong redox ability. In this study, the fabrication and characterization of BiOCl/MoSe2 photocatalysts were performed, and their enhanced photocatalytic activity was observed compared to single BiOCl and MoSe2. The optimal loading amount of MoSe2 was determined to be 30 wt.%.

Facet-heterojunction-based photothermocatalyst CdS-Au-{010} BiVO4{110}-MnOx with excellent synergetic effect for toluene degradation

Summary: We successfully fabricated CdS-Au-{010}BiVO4{110}-MnOx photocatalyst using a facet-heterojunction strategy. The synthesized catalyst showed excellent photothermocatalytic activity and selectivity for toluene oxidation under full-spectrum sunlight irradiation. The mechanism of the photocatalytic degradation of toluene was found to involve a synergistic effect between the active species produced by CdS-Au-{010}BiVO4 and the lattice oxygen and oxygen vacancy in MnOx.

Gd(III) metal-organic framework as an effective humidity sensor and its hydrogen adsorption properties

Summary: The present study synthesized and characterized a Gd(III)-based MOF (MOF-76(Gd)) with excellent hydrogen adsorption/desorption capacity and humidity sensing properties. The results showed that MOF-76(Gd) exhibited high thermal stability and good surface area and pore volume. Additionally, MOF-76(Gd) demonstrated fast response and recovery time in humidity sensing.

Summary: In this study, CdS nanowires were combined with vanadium carbide using a specific method, and it was found that the photocatalytic activity of the CdS nanowires was significantly enhanced when loaded with vanadium carbide, especially for simultaneous production of H2 and selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol into benzaldehyde. Additionally, the vanadium carbide loading also reduced the recombination rate of hydrogen and benzaldehyde. The results of this study demonstrate the importance of this method in achieving commercialization of photocatalytic hydrogen production.
