A Comprehensive Study of Local, Global, and Combined Optimization Methods on Synthetic Seismic Refraction and Direct Current Resistivity Data

Paul Edigbue et al.

Summary: Non-uniqueness is a challenge in geophysical inversions. This study proposes a combined local and global optimization approach to tackle this challenge. By jointly estimating the physical model parameters in direct current resistivity and seismic refraction data, this method shows improved anomaly delineation.

Three-dimensional supervirtual seismic refraction interferometry: A case study in western Saudi Arabia

Paul Edigbue et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a semi-supervised target track recognition algorithm based on a semi-supervised generative adversarial network (SSGAN) which learns a robust model from a few labeled target track examples and deals with outliers in the data. The method achieves highly competitive target track recognition performance, with a minimum accuracy of 97% and a 15.7% improvement compared to state-of-the-art methods.

Fault parameters assessment from the gravity data profiles applying the global particle swarm optimization

Khalid S. Essa et al.

Summary: This study focuses on interpreting gravity anomalies caused by fault structures using the second moving average operator and global particle swarm to detect fault parameters. The proposed method was successfully applied to synthetic and real datasets from Iraq, USA, Egypt, and France, with geological and geophysical information supporting field examples from Iraq, USA, and Egypt. The forward model results for the Pyrenees faults in France showed good agreement with measured gravity anomalies, opening up possibilities for researchers worldwide to use the results as a priori information for further investigations.

A Review of Geophysical Modeling Based on Particle Swarm Optimization

Francesca Pace et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the application of particle swarm optimization (PSO) in stochastic inverse modeling of geophysical data. The main features of PSO are summarized, and its contributions and limitations in various geophysical fields are analyzed. Case studies showcase successful applications of PSO in interpreting different types of geophysical data.
