Development and application of fish scale wastes as versatile natural biomaterials

Di Qin et al.

Summary: Fish scales are a unique natural biomaterial mainly composed of type I collagen and hydroxyapatite, with hierarchical microstructures similar to human hard tissues. Despite their potential applications in various fields, the limited commercial value of fish scales hinders their practical use, calling for conversion and reuse to reduce environmental impact and create commercial value.

Nano-Hydroxyapatite from White Seabass Scales as a Bio-Filler in Polylactic Acid Biocomposite: Preparation and Characterization

Preeyaporn Injorhor et al.

Summary: Nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp) prepared from fish scales using two different deproteinization methods was used as a bio-filler in PLA composites. The PLA composite with 1DP-nHAp exhibited higher tensile strength and Young's modulus compared to the one with 2DP-nHAp at the same content. In addition, the addition of 5 phr 1DP-nHAp significantly improved the mechanical properties of the PLA composite and allowed for the formation of continuous fibers without beads during electrospinning.

Preparation of Poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide)-Grafted Deproteinized Natural Rubber and Its Effect on the Properties of Natural Rubber/Silica Composites

Supharat Inphonlek et al.

Summary: This study successfully achieved graft copolymerization of poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) onto deproteinized natural rubber, which enhanced the polarity of natural rubber and improved its compatibility with silica. The mixture of (PAA-co-PAM)-DPNR and silica improved the mechanical properties of DPNR.

Fabrication, characterization, dielectric properties, thermal stability, flame retardancy and transport behavior of chlorinated nitrile rubber/hydroxyapatite nanocomposites

A. Nihmath et al.

Summary: This study focused on the preparation of chlorinated nitrile rubber (Cl-NBR)/hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposites using an open two-roll mixing mill, and characterized their formation, dielectric properties, flame retardancy, diffusion and permeation properties of petroleum solvents. The incorporation of HA in Cl-NBR was confirmed by FTIR analysis, and the nanocomposites showed improved thermal stability and flame resistance with increasing HA loading. The study also found that the dielectric constant decreased with increasing frequency, and the solvent resistance properties were enhanced in the composite containing 7 phr HA sample.

Development of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles reinforced chlorinated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber/chlorinated ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber blends

Alasseri Nihmath et al.

Summary: The polymer blend composites reinforced with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles showed enhanced mechanical properties, oil resistance, hardness, and AC conductivity. The addition of nanoparticles also decreased the diffusion rate of the blend composites with an anomalous trend in the diffusion mechanism. Among the blend composites, the sample with 7 phr of HA exhibited good oil and solvent resistance, increased AC conductivity, and improved mechanical properties.
