Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound for Lung Cancer Diagnosis: Tips and Tricks

Summary: In this study, we used upgraded endoscopic techniques to reach nodules in the periphery of the lungs and perform biopsies on lesions without endobronchial findings. The results showed that male patients were more common, forceps was the main tissue extraction technique, and tumors sized 1 to 2 cm were the most encountered. Less than 20 minutes were needed for half of the patients, and the majority of tumors were located in the central area of the lungs. Larger nodules and peripheral lesions required less use of C-Arm and had a procedure time between 20-40 minutes.

Radial-EBUS: CryoBiopsy Versus Conventional Biopsy: Time-Sample and C-Arm

Summary: In this study, computed tomography scans and positron emission tomography were used for the diagnosis of lung nodules. By comparing the sample size and number of cell-block slices of different biopsy methods, it was found that central lesions were not related to sample size, and cryobiopsies provided less sample size for peripheral lesions. The use of C-Arm as an additional navigation tool resulted in shorter procedure time.

It found that immunotherapy was associated with lower fatigue rates compared to chemotherapy, but the combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy increased the risk of fatigue.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the sample size for one pass of biopsy. The results showed that needle diameter was associated with the diagnosis of cancer type, the number of cell-blocks was associated with the lesion size and needle diameter, and slices from the tissue and cell-blocks were again associated with the lesion size and needle diameter. Therefore, careful selection of needle diameter is necessary, and a 19G needle should be used for suspected lymphoma cases.
