Efficient removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous media by unmodified and modified nanodiamonds

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: This article investigates the adsorption performances of unmodified and thermally oxidized nanodiamond for removing heavy metal ions from wastewater. It is found that thermally oxidized nanodiamond has higher adsorption capacities compared to unmodified nanodiamond. The study also identifies key operating parameters and optimal conditions for the adsorption process through experiments and parameter analysis.

Rama Sinha et al.

Summary: This paper provides a review on the sources, chemical speciation, and toxicity of Cr(VI) ions, as well as the applications of biochar materials for the remediation of Cr(VI) contaminated matrices. The mechanism of Cr(VI) adsorption onto biochar materials is discussed, and various models are used to understand the adsorption process. The practical applicability of biochar-based sorbents for Cr(VI) removal is also evaluated, and future directions for advanced biochar materials are proposed.

Aluminum-based metal-organic frameworks for adsorptive removal of anti-cancer (methotrexate) drug from aqueous solutions

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: The study found that NH2-MIL-101 has a higher adsorption capacity for MTX compared to other synthesized MOFs due to its large surface area, total pore volume, positive zeta potential, and polar amino functional groups. Adsorption of MTX onto NH2-MIL-101 follows Langmuir isotherms and pseudo-second-order kinetic equations. Thermodynamic data suggest that adsorption onto NH2-MIL-101 is spontaneous and exothermic, with electrostatic interactions, pi-pi stacking, and H-bonding playing a role in the adsorption mechanism.

Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based MOF for efficient removal of heavy metal ions from water

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-EDA) showed excellent adsorption capability for Pb(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II) metal ions, with adsorption behavior governed by pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. The adsorption process depended on interactions between metal ions and the abundant functional groups on the UiO-66-EDA surface.

Summary: The study synthesized new azo-based 1,3-indandion derivatives and found that some compounds showed stronger inhibitory effects against standard drugs. Furthermore, it was discovered that the presence of electron donating groups, halogen groups, and transition metals enhanced the biological activities of the tested compounds.

High-Entropy 2D Carbide MXenes: TiVNbMoC3 and TiVCrMoC3

Srinivasa Kartik Nemani et al.

Summary: A study reports the synthesis of multi-principal-element high-entropy M4C3Tx MXenes, including two new high-entropy MXenes and their precursor MAX phases. The research utilized various characterization techniques to determine the structure and distribution of four transition metals in high-entropy MAX and MXene phases, along with first-principles calculations for formation energies. Experimental results show that using three transition metals instead of four can lead to the formation of two different MAX phases under similar synthesis conditions, highlighting the significance of configurational entropy in stabilizing high-entropy MAX phases.
