Long-term phosphorus addition inhibits phosphorus transformations involved in soil arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and acid phosphatase in two tropical rainforests

Qingshui Yu et al.

Summary: Increasing atmospheric nitrogen and phosphorus deposition affect the regulatory processes of soil phosphorus in phosphorus-poor tropical rainforests. Plants and microorganisms acquire most inorganic phosphorus by releasing hydrogen ions and organic acids, while interception by roots and enzymatic mineralization of organic phosphorus are relatively low. Acid phosphatase activity and kinetic parameters increased under low nitrogen addition, while phosphorus addition decreased acid phosphatase activity and arbuscular mycorrhizal diversity in both rainforests.

Impact of grassland afforestation with contrasting tree species on soil phosphorus fractions and alkaline phosphatase gene communities

Xiaodong Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that grassland afforestation significantly decreased soil organic phosphorus and microbial biomass phosphorus, while increasing inorganic phosphorus bioavailability. Although there were no significant differences between tree species, the separation of phoD and phoX gene bacterial communities associated with afforestation was more influenced by soil moisture and pH.
