Predicting adsorption isotherms of organic micropollutants by high-silica zeolite mixtures

Xinyu Zheng et al.

Summary: The study found that in single-solute water, the adsorption isotherms of zeolite mixtures can be well predicted by combining experimental adsorption isotherms of single zeolites based on mass ratios. However, in multi-solute water, especially when the proportion of more effective zeolite in the mixture is lower, the accuracy of adsorption isotherms by zeolite mixtures calculated solely by combining experimental isotherms of single zeolites is reduced, which could be attributed to the competition for more effective zeolite between different OMPs.

Adsorption mechanism for tetracycline onto magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles: Adsorption isotherm and dynamic behavior, location of adsorption sites and interaction bonds

Wangjian Zhai et al.

Summary: Fe3O4 nanoparticles were prepared and used as a magnetic adsorbent to remove tetracycline from neutral aqueous solution with high efficiency. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm model described the equilibrium data well. Hydrogen bonds formed between Fe3O4 and TC play a key role in the adsorption mechanism.

Investigation of adsorption properties of oxytetracycline hydrochloride on magnetic zeolite/Fe3O4 particles

Gulsah Baskan et al.

Summary: Iron oxides and ferrite-supported zeolites were used for the removal of Oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC-HCL) from wastewater. The adsorption behavior of OTC-HCL on zeolite/Fe3O4 particles was studied, and the optimum adsorption parameters were determined. The adsorption isotherms and kinetic models were analyzed, showing that Langmuir isotherm and pseudo second order kinetic models best fit the experimental data. The maximum adsorption capacity of zeolite/Fe3O4 was found to be 83.33 mg/g at 323 K.

Magnetic Fe3O4/ZIF-8 composite as an effective and recyclable adsorbent for phenol adsorption from wastewater

Yun Qu et al.

Summary: Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising adsorbents for removing organic pollutants from water. However, their separation and recycling are difficult due to their microcrystalline powder form. This study focuses on the facile fabrication of regenerable magnetic adsorbents with high efficiency and excellent recoverability. A composite of Fe3O4/ZIF-8 was successfully prepared for phenol removal, showing outstanding adsorption capacity and fast adsorption rate. The adsorption mechanism involves hydrogen bonding, pi-pi interaction, pore adsorption, and electrostatic attraction. The magnetic adsorbent also exhibits excellent reusability.

Adsorption of tetracycline hydrochloride on layered double hydroxide loaded carbon nanotubes and site energy distribution analysis

Caifeng Xia et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel composite material LDH@CNT was prepared using an in-situ method, which had a favorable adsorbent structure due to the mutual support of LDHs and CNTs. The adsorption kinetics of LDHs, CNTs, and LDH@CNT composites for tetracycline were well described by intraparticle diffusion and pseudo-second-order models, indicating that the adsorption site played a major role. The Generalized Langmuir model was found to better describe the adsorption process than the Langmuir model, suggesting multiple interactions between tetracycline and the composite material. Site energy distribution theory combined with molecular simulation explained the adsorption mechanisms, and the removal of tetracycline by LDHs, CNTs, and LDH@CNT composites was calculated. The results showed that LDH@CNT composites had lower average site energies compared to LDHs and CNTs, but had more exposed adsorption active sites, leading to improved removal efficiency of tetracycline.

Synthesis, performance, and mechanisms of strontium ferrite-incorporated zeolite imidazole framework (ZIF-8) for the simultaneous removal of Pb(II) and tetracycline

Gyuri Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, SFZIF-8 was synthesized and found to have a higher adsorption performance for both Pb(II) and TC compared to commonly used adsorbents. The adsorption behaviors were explained by electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, hydrogen bonding, and 7C-7C interactions. SFZIF-8 nanocomposites can be utilized as alternative and promising adsorbents for the simultaneous removal of both Pb(II) and TC.

The effective adsorption of tetracycline onto MoS2@Zeolite-5: Adsorption behavior and interfacial mechanism

Junfei Liu et al.

Summary: This study synthesized modified zeolite supported nano-MoS2 (MoS2@Zeolite) with multiple adsorption sites, resulting in the best adsorption performance exhibited by MoS2@Zeolite-5 with high stability. The adsorption mechanism of the composites mainly relied on chelation by Mo and electrostatic interaction, with the presence of H-bonding and 7C-7C action. These findings confirm the potential application of MoS2@Zeolite-5 as an efficient and stable adsorbent for treating TC pollution in pharmaceutical wastewater.
