3D Virtual Laboratory for Control Engineering Using Blended Learning Methodology

Blended Learning is an effective approach in education, combining face-to-face experiences with online technology to reduce the number of students in the classroom. A virtual lab can be used as a complementary method to overcome challenges in laboratory practice, providing students with an online working tool for applying control engineering concepts.
The combination of face-to-face experiences with online technology (Blended Learning) represents an effective approach in today's educational context. The Blended Learning methodology offers the possibility of maintaining face-to-face teaching, reducing the number of students in classroom taking advantage of both modalities. Thus, in terms of laboratory practice, a realistic 3D virtual lab experience as a complementary method to a physical lab can constitute an useful solution to overcome these challenges. The main objective of this proposal is the emulation of a physical level control plant from the laboratories of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (University of A Coruna). In this case, three software tools are combined to build a virtual laboratory, as an alternative to the real one. This modern simulation environment provides students an online working tool, suitable for applying control engineering concepts through a novel approach.
