Revisited Ti2Nb2O9 as an Anode Material for Advanced Li-Ion Batteries

Oleg A. Drozhzhin et al.

Summary: Ti2Nb2O9 with a pseudo-2D layered morphology synthesized via ion exchange route exhibits a highly reversible capacity of 200 mAh g(-1) and shows a single-phase (de)lithiation mechanism with 4.8% unit cell volume change. Operando X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) experiment reveals simultaneous Ti4+/Ti3+ and Nb5+/Nb4+ reduction/oxidation within the whole voltage range, showing great potential as a negative electrode material in high-performance LIBs.

Ammonium-Ion Storage Using Electrodeposited Manganese Oxides

Yu Song et al.

Summary: This study investigates NH4+-storage chemistry using electrodeposited manganese oxide (MnOx) for the first time, and reveals the significant role of NH4Ac concentration in NH4+ storage for MnOx. The transformed MnOx with a layered structure shows high specific capacity and good cycling stability in NH4Ac, outperforming current NH4+ hosting materials. These findings highlight the potential of layered MnOx as a new prototype for NH4+-based energy storage and contribute to a deeper understanding of the NH4+-storage mechanism in metal oxides.

High-throughput computational screening of cathode materials for Li-O2 battery

A. O. Boev et al.

Summary: Despite the high specific energy of Li-O2 energy storage technology in theory, the inability to use thick gas diffusion electrodes made of carbonaceous materials due to passivation by discharge products limits its practical application. A computational methodology based on density functional theory is proposed to search for alternative cathode materials for Li-O2 batteries, identifying 33 potential compounds with low normalized surface energies out of 2800 initial structures.
