Time evolution of an infinite projected entangled pair state: A gradient tensor update in the tangent space

Jacek Dziarmaga

Summary: This paper proposes a gradient tensor update method in the tangent space of the iPEPS variational manifold to describe the time evolution of an infinite 2D many body quantum lattice system and minimize truncation errors. The method is benchmarked by simulating a sudden quench of a transverse field and the quantum Kibble-Zurek mechanism in a 2D quantum Ising model.

Low-temperature specific-heat studies on two square-kagome antiferromagnets

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: By studying the low-temperature specific heats of two antiferromagnets with a two-dimensional square-kagome structure, we found that both materials do not exhibit magnetic ordering at low temperatures, and exhibit different characteristics under magnetic fields. The interlayer Cu2+ ions in NaCu7 play a negligible role in determining its ground state.

Thermodynamics of the spin-half square kagome lattice antiferromagnet

Johannes Richter et al.

Summary: Over the last decade, the interest in the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet (HAF) on the square kagome lattice has been growing. This model system is a prominent example of quantum magnetism with a quantum paramagnetic ground state, flat-band physics near the saturation field, and quantum scars. Recent numerical investigations have revealed a gapless spin liquid in the square kagome magnet. The study also provides insights into specific heat, entropy, and susceptibility, revealing low-temperature shoulder below the major maximum and a change in curvature just at a specific temperature, attributed to low-lying singlet excitations and the singlet-triplet gap.

Matrix product states and projected entangled pair states: Concepts, symmetries, theorems

J. Ignacio Cirac et al.

Summary: The theory of entanglement provides a new language for describing interactions and correlations in many-body systems, with vocabulary consisting of qubits and entangled pairs, and syntax provided by tensor networks. Matrix product states and projected entangled pair states describe how entanglement is routed, act as a novel type of nonlocal order parameter, and their symmetries reflect global entanglement patterns. Tensor networks enable the construction of real-space renormalization group flows and fixed points, and are used to examine the entanglement structure of states with topological quantum order.

Hydrothermal Synthesis and a Composite Crystal Structure of Na6Cu7BiO4(PO4)4[Cl,(OH)]3 as a Candidate for Quantum Spin Liquid

Olga Yakubovich et al.

Summary: The novel sodium bismuth oxo-cuprate phosphate chloride Na6Cu7BiO4(PO4)(4)[Cl-2.23(OH)(0.77)] with square-kagome layers of Cu2+ has been synthesized using hydrothermal techniques. Its complex crystal structure includes positively charged layers formed by oxygen-centered tetrahedra and intercalated in a matrix built by Na-centered polyhedra, PO4 tetrahedra, and CuO4Cl pyramids. The compound shows potential for being a spin liquid due to the absence of long-range order in its magnetic subsystem up to 2 K.

Pinwheel valence bond crystal ground state of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the shuriken lattice

Nikita Astrakhantsev et al.

Summary: We investigate the ground state of the spin-21 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the shuriken lattice using advanced numerical techniques, and find a quantum paramagnetic ground state as well as the presence of pinwheel VBC order. The role of quantum fluctuations via the Gutzwiller projector in resolving the subtle interplay between competing orders is highlighted in our work.

Time evolution of an infinite projected entangled pair state: Neighborhood tensor update

Jacek Dziarmaga

Summary: In this paper, an intermediate neighborhood tensor update (NTU) algorithm is proposed for tensor network evolution, which takes into account the nearest-neighbor environment and provides a Hermitian and non-negative error measure down to machine precision. The NTU algorithm yields stable unitary time evolution in the quantum Ising model and accurate thermal states with long correlation lengths up to 20 lattice sites. The NTU approach shows promise in efficiently updating tensor networks in quantum systems.

Flat band, spin-1 Dirac cone, and Hofstadter diagram in the fermionic square kagome model

Tomonari Mizoguchi et al.

Summary: The study reveals characteristic band structures of fermions on a square kagome lattice, including flat bands and two spin-1 Dirac cones. Additionally, in the presence of an external field, the profile of the Chern numbers around the modified spin-1 Dirac cones coincides with the conventional one.

Quantum time crystals with programmable disorder in higher dimensions

A. Kshetrimayum et al.

Summary: The researchers present fresh evidence for the existence of discrete quantum time crystals in two spatial dimensions, showing that these crystals are stabilized by many-body localization arising from disorder. By directly targeting the thermodynamic limit using instances of infinite tensor network states and implementing disorder in a translationally invariant setting, they discuss how disorder can be realized in programmable quantum simulators. This approach could ultimately contribute to devising a blueprint for a quantum simulator featuring prethermal time crystalline dynamics.
