Urea-engineering mediated hydrogen-bond donating Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles and nitroalkenes in a dual-functionalized microporous metal-organic framework with high recyclability and pore-fitting-induced size-selectivity

Manpreet Singh et al.

Summary: As an alternative to Lewis-acid activation, hydrogen-bond donating (HBD) organo-catalysis has significant importance in constructing carbon-carbon bonds. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are used to overcome issues like self-quenching, solubility, and reactivity. The researchers strategically designed a pillar-bilayer Cd(ii) MOF with uni-directional microporous channels, which exhibited high efficiency in catalyzing Friedel-Crafts alkylation reactions. The MOF showed size-selectivity and retained activity over multiple cycles, demonstrating its potential for tailored engineering of advanced functionalities.

Alexandre M. Viana et al.

Summary: A novel chloride activation method was developed to enhance the catalytic activity of UiO-66(Zr) and UiO-66(Hf) materials in oxidative desulfurization reactions. The activation treatment significantly improved the catalytic performance of the materials, even after multiple reaction cycles, without structural degradation of the catalyst. This cost-effective method shows promise for efficiently activating catalytic MOF materials and expanding their catalytic applications.

Hf-MOF catalyzed Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reduction reaction: Insight into reaction mechanism

Yamei Lin et al.

Summary: Hf-MOF-808 shows excellent activity and specific selectivity in the hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds due to its poor crystallinity, defects, and large specific surface area, providing more Lewis acid-base sites to promote the reaction. Using DFT computations, it was found that the defects of Hf-MOF play a crucial role in promoting the hydrogen transfer process, leading to its specific selectivity for reducing carbonyl groups.
