Removal of levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin from aqueous solutions and an economic evaluation using the electrocoagulation process

Sabah J. Mohammed et al.

Summary: This study examined the utilization of electrocoagulation (EC) for the removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) and levofloxacin (LVX) from aqueous solutions. The results showed that the EC method achieved effective removal efficiencies of 93.47% for CIP and 88.00% for LVX under optimum conditions. The adsorption isotherm models and kinetic models were applied to determine the elimination mechanisms of CIP and LVX using the EC method. The findings suggested that the adsorption of CIP and LVX on iron hydroxide flocs followed the Sips isotherm and the removal process was controlled by chemical adsorption mechanisms.

Sodium Alginate/Modified Bentonite Composite Bead Adsorptive Removal of Norfloxacin: Static and Dynamic Adsorption

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: The low-cost calcium-based bentonite was modified and granulated with surfactants to improve the adsorption efficiency of NOR. The modified composite GOMBt exhibited a lamellar structure with improved pore structure. The adsorption of NOR on GOMBt was found to be an endothermic process and maximum adsorption capacity was obtained under acidic conditions. Dynamic adsorption studies showed that the breakthrough time and bed height were positively correlated, while flow rate, pH, and breakthrough time had a negative correlation. The results indicated that internal and external diffusion were not rate-limiting steps in the dynamic adsorption of NOR on GOMBt.
