ACuZrQ3 (A = Rb, Cs; Q = S, Se, Te): Direct Bandgap Semiconductors and Metals with Ultralow Thermal Conductivity

Craig C. Laing et al.

Summary: ACuZrQ(3) compounds (A = Rb, Cs; Q = S, Se, Te) were synthesized and their crystal structures and properties were investigated. The tellurides exhibited a second order Jahn-Teller distortion, with RbCuZrTe3 showing a larger distortion. The structures and thermal properties of other compounds were also determined. Theoretical and experimental results confirmed the semiconductor or metallic nature of these compounds, as well as their optical properties and thermal conductivity.

Enhanced atomic ordering leads to high thermoelectric performance in AgSbTe2

Subhajit Roychowdhury et al.

Summary: By optimizing atomic disorder and cadmium doping in polycrystalline silver antimony telluride, high thermoelectric performance with near room-temperature figure of merit ZT of around 1.5 and maximum ZT of around 2.6 at 573 kelvin is achieved. This strategy of enhancing cationic ordering while reducing lattice thermal conductivity is applicable to most thermoelectric materials with inherent atomic disorder.

Syntheses of five new layered quaternary chalcogenides SrScCuSe3, SrScCuTe3, BaScCuSe3, BaScCuTe3, and BaScAgTe3: crystal structures, thermoelectric properties, and electronic structures

Mohd Ishtiyak et al.

Summary: This article presents the syntheses of five new layered quaternary copper/silver-containing chalcogenides, and reveals their structural characteristics through single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The metallic behavior and thermoelectric properties of BaScCuTe3 have been confirmed, with a maximum thermoelectric figure of merit (zT) value of 0.34 at 779 K. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have also been utilized to study the structural and electronic properties of BaScCuTe3 and BaScAgTe3.

Gopabandhu Panigrahi et al.

Summary: Three new isostructural quaternary tellurides, Ba(2)Ln(1-x)Mn(2)Te(5) (Ln = Pr, Gd, and Yb), were synthesized by the molten-flux method at 1273 K, and they crystallize in the monoclinic crystal system with partially filled Ln sites. These structures do not contain any homoatomic or metallic bonding.
