Whole-system analysis reveals high greenhouse-gas emissions from citywide sanitation in Kampala, Uganda

Jake Johnson et al.

Summary: According to a whole-system analysis, greenhouse-gas emissions from the sanitation-service chain in Kampala may represent more than half of the total city-level emissions. This suggests that global estimates of emissions should take into account the complex service chain in rapidly growing cities in low- and middle-income countries.

Hierarchical Bayesian modeling for predictive environmental microbiology toward a safe use of human excreta: Systematic review and meta -analysis

Wakana Oishi et al.

Summary: This study developed inactivation kinetics models for microorganisms in different environmental conditions of excreta matrices, identifying roundworm eggs as the most tolerant microorganisms. The inactivation of roundworm eggs is influenced by factors such as ammonia concentration, temperature, and moisture content. The model predictions were found to align with current WHO guidelines.
