First Sagittarius A* Event Horizon Telescope Results. I. The Shadow of the Supermassive Black Hole in the Center of the Milky Way

Kazunori Akiyama et al.

Summary: This study presents the first observations of Sagittarius A* using the Event Horizon Telescope. The data supports the presence of a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, with an image that is consistent with the expected appearance of a Kerr black hole. The results also connect dynamical measurements of stellar orbits to event-horizon-scale images.

Scalar field dark matter with two components: Combined approach from particle physics and cosmology

Erendira Gutierrez-Luna et al.

Summary: This study explores the possibility of incorporating particle physics motivated scalar fields into the dark matter cosmological model. The analysis is performed using one to two scalar fields to examine their impact on the cosmic flow. The results show that the combination of scalar fields has a significant effect on the cosmological expansion.

GWTC-2: Compact Binary Coalescences Observed by LIGO and Virgo during the First Half of the Third Observing Run

R. Abbott et al.

Summary: This report presents 39 candidate gravitational-wave events detected by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo during the first half of the third observing run (O3a) between April 1, 2019 and October 1, 2019. The events include black hole binary mergers up to a redshift of approximately 0.8 and events where the components cannot be unambiguously identified. The range of candidate event masses has expanded compared to previous catalogs, with the inclusion of binary systems with asymmetric mass ratios.

Gravitational and Electromagnetic Perturbations of a Charged Black Hole in a General Gauge Condition

Claudia Moreno et al.

Summary: The study derives a set of coupled equations for gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations in the Reissner-Nordstrom geometry using the Newman-Penrose formalism. It shows that physical gravitational signal information is in the Weyl scalar function Psi(4), while electromagnetic signal information is encoded in the function chi connecting radiative Maxwell scalars phi(2) and Weyl scalar Psi(3). The analysis does not impose gauge conditions, includes sources for perturbations, and presents a hyperbolic system of coupled partial differential equations for numerical solutions, aiming to facilitate gravitational wave detection via electromagnetic signals.
