Summary: The use of bacteriophage in combination with antimicrobial therapy was effective in improving disease response in a patient with multidrug-resistant M. chelonae infection. Summary: This study analyzed cases of hip and knee prosthetic joint infection (PJI) caused by Mycobacterium sp over the past 30 years. It found that at least 17 different species of Mycobacterium can be responsible for PJI in these joints. While Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the most common pathogen, non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) should also be considered as an emerging cause of hip and knee PJI.

Summary: Tuberculosis exhibits biofilm-like characteristics such as immune system evasion and drug tolerance, with Mycobacterium tuberculosis forming cellulose-containing biofilms both in vitro and in vivo. Disabling biofilm formation reduces Mtb survival in mice, while cellulase treatment enhances drug activity, highlighting the clinical relevance of Mtb biofilms in tuberculosis.
