Nationwide Evolution of Pediatric Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Indications, Utilization, and Readmissions over Time

Monique T. Barakat et al.

Summary: This study analyzed outcome and utilization trends of pediatric ERCP in the US from 2005 to 2014. Most patients were female, with therapeutic ERCPs being common, and biliary and pancreatitis were leading indications. 13% of patients were readmitted post-ERCP, with significant predictors of 30-day readmission being history of liver transplantation, age 0-4 years, male sex, and obesity. Urban teaching and urban hospitals had lower odds of prolonged length of stay associated with ERCP compared to rural hospitals.
