Mono- and Rare Trinuclear Zn(II) Complexes with Near-Infrared Emissive Ligands: Anion-Responsive Nuclearity Control, Interconversion, Solid-State NIR Emission, and Latent Fingerprint Imaging

Ranjit Singh et al.

Summary: The ability to predictably control the nuclearity of metal complexes is important for the development of functional coordination compounds and metal-organic frameworks. In this study, a series of Zn(II) complexes with different nuclearities were synthesized using near-infrared-emitting ligands and counterion control. The structural analyses revealed a regular distorted tetrahedral geometry for the mononuclear complexes, while the trinuclear complexes showed a rare trinuclear structure. Intramolecular p-p stacking interactions played a significant role in forming this rare geometry. The complexes exhibited substituent and nuclearity-dependent photophysical properties, and two of them were successfully tested as latent fingerprint imaging agents.

Turn on Fluorescence Sensing of Zn2+ Based on Fused Isoindole-Imidazole Scaffold

Sutapa Sahu et al.

Summary: Optical chemosensors with high specificity, sensitivity, and fast detection features have revolutionized the field of sensing. In this study, a Schiff base chemosensor containing isoindole-imidazole was designed and synthesized for detecting Zn2+ ion. The sensor showed highly selective and sensitive fluorescence turn-on response with a detection limit of 0.073 μm in the 3:7 HEPES buffer:DMSO medium.

Fluorescence Turn-Off and Colorimetric Sensor for Fe2+, Fe3+, and Cu2+ Ions Based on a 2,5,7-Triarylimidazopyridine Scaffold

Sonakshi Sasan et al.

Summary: Two cyanoimidazopyridine-based sensors (SS1 and SS2) have been studied for the colorimetric and fluorometric detection of Fe2+, Fe3+, and Cu2+ ions in a semi-aqueous medium. The sensors show a turn-off fluorescence response due to the restriction in internal charge transfer. The binding ratios of SS1 and SS2 with Cu2+ and Fe2+/3+ ions have been determined, and the sensors exhibit high binding constant values and low detection limits. Additionally, sensor-coated filter paper strips have been prepared for real-time detection of the ions based on color changes.

A versatile rhodamine B-derived fluorescent probe for selective copper (II) sensing

B. U. Gauthama et al.

Summary: In this study, a colourimetric/fluorimetric chemosensor-RL was developed to detect Cu2+ ions with high sensitivity and selectivity. The formation of a 1:1 complex between RL and Cu2+ was confirmed through experiments, and real-time detection was successfully performed on various samples. This research has significant application potential in the field of metal imaging.

Designed Tb(III)-Functionalized MOF-808 as Visible Fluorescent Probes for Monitoring Bilirubin and Identifying Fingerprints

Kuiyu Yi et al.

Summary: A novel fluorescence probe for detecting bilirubin has been developed and successfully applied in the determination of BR in serum and urine, as well as the design of portable BR test paper. Additionally, a molecular logic gate device for intelligent fluorescent sensing of BR, and the use of Tb3+@MOF-808 for developing latent fingerprints on different surfaces have been explored.
