The Quest for Stable Potassium-Ion Battery Chemistry

Xianyong Wu et al.

Summary: Potassium-ion batteries have the potential for high capacity and exceptional cycling stability, but advancements are needed in electrode and electrolyte materials selection, as well as controlling coupled electrochemical reactions and ensuring compatibility between materials. Stability can be achieved by using a stable K2Mn[Fe(CN)(6)] cathode, prepotassiated graphite anode, and concentrated electrolyte, resulting in a high energy density and good cycling performance.

Accelerated Diffusion Kinetics in ZnTe/CoTe2 Heterojunctions for High Rate Potassium Storage

Chaofeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper reports a template-assisted strategy to obtain a bimetallic telluride heterostructure supported on an N-doped carbon shell, which promotes the diffusion of K+ ions for rapid charge transfer. It is shown that the electron-rich telluride sites and built-in electric fields in the heterostructure provide abundant cation adsorption sites and facilitate interfacial electron transport during potassiation/depotassiation. The heterostructure exhibits high structural stability and a highly reversible capacity up to 5000 cycles at 5 A g(-1).

An Ultralow Temperature Aqueous Battery with Proton Chemistry

Fang Yue et al.

Summary: A low-temperature aqueous Pb-quinone battery system based on PCHL-rGO was developed, showing extraordinary electrochemical performance even at -70 degrees C. By modulating the interaction between SO42- and water molecules, the hydrogen bonds between water molecules in the electrolyte can be significantly damaged, lowering the freezing point of the electrolyte and solving the capacity loss issue of conventional aqueous batteries in cold environments.
