Hydrogel Transformed from Nanoparticles for Prevention of Tissue Injury and Treatment of Inflammatory Diseases

Zimeng Li et al.

Summary: This study reports the engineering of functional hydrogels that respond to physiological and pathological acidic microenvironments using transformable nanoparticles. These nanoparticles can protect mice from gastric injury and be used for triggerable and sustained drug delivery for treating inflammatory diseases. The engineered transformable nanoparticles have great potential for tissue injury protection and site-specific/local delivery of therapeutic agents.

Click Chemistry Hydrogels for Extrusion Bioprinting: Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities

Eva Mueller et al.

Summary: The emergence of 3D bioprinting has revolutionized tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. However, the existing bioinks have limitations in terms of mechanics, degradation rates, and cell viabilities. Click chemistry offers a promising solution to these challenges, but there are few examples of 3D-printed click chemistry hydrogels due to technical difficulties.

Effect of Polymer Topology and Residue Chirality on Biodegradability of Polypeptide Hydrogels

Dong Li et al.

Summary: This study developed poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(glutamic acid) copolymers with different topological structures and residue chirality of polypeptide segments, which were grafted with tyramine side groups to form porous hydrogels. In vitro experiments showed good cytocompatibility of all polymer precursors and hydrogels. Further assessment revealed that the enzymatic degradability and in vivo biocompatibility were influenced by the copolymer topology and polypeptide chirality.

Biodegradable Polysarcosine with Inserted Alanine Residues: Synthesis and Enzymolysis

Peng Zhou et al.

Summary: Polysarcosine (PSar) is a water-soluble polypeptoid with biodegradability and biocompatibility. Under specific conditions, PSar can be degraded by enzymes and its molecular weight and alanine content can be controlled. The water solubility and biodegradability of PSar depend on the alanine residue content, and its noncytotoxicity offers potential applications in drug delivery.

Trabecular architecture during the healing process of a tibial diaphysis defect

Victor R. Martinez-Zelaya et al.

Summary: The study investigates the 3D microarchitecture of newly formed trabecular tissue in cortical bone defects and shows that the woven bone trabecular network is organized according to the principle of tensegrity, with highly symmetric geometric motifs. The presence of biomaterials did not disrupt trabecular microarchitecture, suggesting that the formation of intrinsic trabecular motifs is maintained regardless of the presence of a bone graft.
