Pulpal response to mineral trioxide aggregate containing phosphorylated pullulan-based capping material

Yu Toida et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the pulpal responses of monkey's pulp after direct pulp capping (DPC) with mineral trioxide aggregate containing phosphorylated pullulan-based material (MTAPPL). The results suggest that MTAPPL could be an efficient DPC material.

Present status and future directions-Vital pulp treatment and pulp preservation strategies

Henry F. Duncan

Summary: Therapeutic strategies focused on pulp preservation are important in managing deep caries and exposed pulp in vital teeth. While vital pulp treatments (VPTs) have been used for over a century, recent advancements in regenerative endodontics and biologically based therapies have expanded the indications for VPT to include mature cariously affected teeth and teeth with irreversible pulpitis. However, gaps in scientific knowledge and limited educational dissemination among dentists pose challenges in accurately diagnosing the inflammatory state of the pulp and providing consistent treatment options. This review discusses the current status of VPT, identifies the major problems hindering its clinical acceptance, and offers potential solutions for making VPT a more consistently prescribed evidenced-based treatment in dental practice.

Efficacy of different calcium silicate materials as pulp-capping agents: Randomized clinical trial

Cem Peskersoy et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of different calcium silicate-based materials in pulp capping. MTA+ and Biodentine showed the highest clinical and radiographic success rates, while Theracal LC group had slightly better results than Dycal group. Pulp exposure size only affected the success of materials in light-cured groups, with MTA+ and Biodentine performing better in large pulp exposures. After 36 months, MTA+ and Biodentine were found to be suitable materials for direct pulp capping in permanent teeth.

Effectiveness of Direct Pulp Capping Bioactive Materials in Dentin Regeneration: A Systematic Review

Ermin Nie et al.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the dentin regeneration efficacy of direct pulp capping biomaterials, concluding that MTA and Biodentine can induce dentin regeneration. The results suggest that MTA and its variants have better efficacy in the DPC procedure for dentin regeneration.

Different types of bioceramics as dental pulp capping materials: A systematic review

Sotoudeh Davaie et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the use of different types of bioceramics as direct dental pulp capping materials for dentin regeneration in permanent teeth. It found that calcium silicate-based materials, MTA, and Biodentine are currently the most effective bioceramics for this purpose, with calcium phosphates showing potential as future alternatives. Further well-designed in vitro and clinical studies are needed to confirm the most appropriate bioceramics for direct dental pulp capping procedures.

The Effect of Calcium-Silicate Cements on Reparative Dentinogenesis Following Direct Pulp Capping on Animal Models

Mihai Andrei et al.

Summary: The vitality of dental pulp is essential for maintaining the health and functionality of the tooth. Hydraulic calcium-silicate cements can stimulate reparative dentinogenesis in direct pulp capping procedures, leading to the formation of new dentin bridges. Different degrees of pulp inflammatory response and dentin bridge formation were observed during pulp healing, showing positive effects on tertiary dentin formation and pulp vitality preservation.

Summary: Root canal treatment is the preferred option for carious pulp exposures, but direct pulp capping with bioactive materials is being considered as an alternative in preventive endodontics. Biodentine, a relatively new material, shows potential for vital pulp therapy in direct pulp capping procedures.

Summary: This study compared the biointeractivity, porosity, water sorption, solubility, mechanical properties, apatite forming ability, and application effectiveness of three calcium silicate-based capping materials. The results showed that while BD exhibited excellent calcium ion release and strength, the high porosity and water absorption of BS material made it unsuitable for pulp capping applications.
