Genomic analysis of diet composition finds novel loci and associations with health and lifestyle

S. Fleur W. Meddens et al.

Summary: The study identified genetic correlations between relative protein intake and obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease; negative genetic correlations between relative carbohydrate and sugar intake and waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, and neighborhood deprivation; and positive genetic correlations between these and physical activity. Fat intake showed no consistent genetic correlations with poor health, but was negatively correlated with educational attainment. No evidence of negative health consequences was found associated with relative carbohydrate, sugar, or fat intake, while relative protein intake was suggested to play a role in metabolic dysfunction.

Gut microbiota interacts with intrinsic brain activity of patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment

Ping Liu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that alterations in gut microbiota (GM) in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) can impact local spontaneous brain activity and subsequently affect cognitive function. Specific correlations were found between different GM compositions and brain activity. Members of Clostridium were positively correlated with brain activity, while Veillonellaceae showed a negative correlation.
