Defect disorder and optical spectroscopy study of Eu-doped NaYF4 and NaYGdF4 nanoparticles

Claudia M. S. Calado et al.

Summary: Optical spectroscopy and defect disorder of Eu-doped NaYF4 and NaY(1-x)GdxF(4) structures were studied through computational and experimental methods. Atomistic modeling was used to predict intrinsic disorder and Eu doping sites, and calculate crystal field parameters. The experimental emission spectrum of Eu-doped structures was obtained, showing agreement with theoretical predictions of local symmetry.

Spectroscopic evidence of preferential excitation of interfacial EuIII by interfacial energy transfer process on core@shell nanoparticles

Isabela M. S. Diogenis et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the excitation and emission spectra profiles of Eu-III sensitized by Gd-III ions in hierarchical structured beta-NaYF4 nanoparticles, indicating preferential sensitization of Eu-III ions at the core@shell interface by IET. This preferential sensitization may help explain the upconversion emission bands intensities observed in UCNPs and confirms that Gd-III-mediated emission occurs spatially in a narrow core@shell interfacial region.

Fabrication of Anticounterfeiting Nanocomposites with Multiple Security Features via Integration of a Photoresponsive Polymer and Upconverting Nanoparticles

Yazhi Liu et al.

Summary: The novel anticounterfeiting nanocomposite demonstrated in the study has multiple prominent security features, such as photoinduced reversible color changes, hard-soft solid transformation, and polarization-dependent structures for encryption. Additionally, the nanocomposite emits visible light upon excitation by near-infrared light, enabling the observation of various anticounterfeiting structures with high contrast. It is easily processed on paper, glass, and plastic, showing its potential anticounterfeiting functions for items such as banknotes, wines, and medicines.

Recent prospects on phosphor-converted LEDs for lighting, displays, phototherapy, and indoor farming

Airton G. Bispo-Jr et al.

Summary: Phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diodes (PC-WLEDs) play a crucial role in indoor and outdoor lighting, but concerns regarding spectral distribution, reliability, and color quality still need to be addressed. The design of high-efficient downshifting converter phosphors with thermally stable luminescence is key, with PC-WLEDs also being considered for indoor farming and phototherapy applications, although performance compared to traditional lamps is a current issue.
