Controlled coherent-coupling and dynamics of exciton complexes in a MoSe2 monolayer

Aleksander Rodek et al.

Summary: In this study, we performed ultrafast coherent nonlinear spectroscopy of a charge-tunable MoSe2 monolayer. The experiments showed that the properties of exciton complexes, such as line width and population decay, can be directly tuned by an applied gate bias. Furthermore, we demonstrated that this bias-tuning approach can also control the coherent coupling strength between charged and neutral exciton complexes.

Escalating Ferromagnetic Order via Se-Vacancies Near Vanadium in WSe2 Monolayers

Seok Joon Yun et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the enhancement of ferromagnetism in vanadium-doped WSe2 monolayer by tailoring complex configurations of Se vacancies. The structural analysis of atomic defects using transmission electron microscopy confirms the increased magnetic order after high-temperature heat-treatment. The pairing of vanadium and Se vacancies is predicted to promote ferromagnetism through spin flip by electron transfer.

Imaging dynamic exciton interactions and coupling in transition metal dichalcogenides

Torben L. Purz et al.

Summary: TMDs are considered as a potential material platform for quantum information science, and multi-dimensional coherent imaging spectroscopy sheds light on the underlying physics for both MoSe2 monolayers and MoSe2/WSe2 heterostructures. The study identifies promising and unfavorable areas for quantum information applications, highlighting the importance of robustness in coherent and incoherent coupling for device applications. The presence of strain and dielectric environment changes does not significantly affect the interlayer exciton lifetimes, supporting TMDs as a next-generation material platform in quantum information science and beyond.

Optical Sensing of Fractional Quantum Hall Effect in Graphene

Alexander Popert et al.

Summary: Graphene and its heterostructures have unique properties for studying strongly correlated electronic phases. However, the lack of a robust energy bandgap has limited optical access to these phases. This study demonstrates an all-optical spectroscopic tool using excited Rydberg excitons in an adjacent transition metal dichalcogenide monolayer to probe electronic correlations in graphene. The technique has submicron spatial resolution, circumventing spatial inhomogeneities and enabling optical studies of correlated states in optically inactive atomically thin materials.

Heteroepitaxial Growth of High Optical Quality, Wafer-Scale van der Waals Heterostrucutres

Katarzyna Ludwiczak et al.

Summary: Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are materials with intriguing optical properties, especially when thinned down to a monolayer. By transferring TMD onto hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), significant improvements in optical and electrical properties can be achieved. A new epitaxial technique has been developed to directly grow high optical quality MoSe2 on an entire 2-inch wafer.

Signatures of Wigner crystal of electrons in a monolayer semiconductor

Tomasz Smolenski et al.

Summary: The signature of a Wigner crystal in a monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide is observed through optical spectroscopy, demonstrating electron charge order in a system with high electron effective mass and reduced dielectric screening even without moire potential or an external magnetic field. The findings show that charge-tunable transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers open up new territory for many-body physics where interaction energy dominates over kinetic energy.

Many-body theory of radiative lifetimes of exciton-trion superposition states in doped two-dimensional materials

Farhan Rana et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the radiative lifetimes of exciton-trion superposition energy eigenstates in doped 2D materials, finding that they are strongly dependent on doping density. It also points out that the two peaks in the optical emission spectra, as well as in the optical absorption spectra, originate from the Coulomb coupling between excitons and trions in doped 2D materials.
