Facile fabrication of SnO2/MoS2/rGO ternary composite for solar light-mediated photocatalysis for water remediation

Philips O. Agboola et al.

Summary: Tin oxide (SnO2) nanostructure has potential application for the removal of organic contaminants from industrial effluents. However, higher bandgap value and fast recombination of charge carriers have limited its applications. To overcome these limitations, a double Z-scheme strategy was proposed, where SnO2 surface sensitization with MoS2 nanofibers and its composite with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) significantly improved the photocatalytic efficiency for methylene blue (MB) degradation under solar light.

Insight into the Effect of Anionic-Anionic Co-Doping on BaTiO3 for Visible Light Photocatalytic Water Splitting: A First-Principles Hybrid Computational Study

Souraya Goumri-Said et al.

Summary: In this research, the electronic properties and optical absorption characteristics of anions-anion combinations were studied to design effective photocatalysts for water redox. The results showed that the double-hole coupling of anions can reduce the band gap and facilitate oxygen and hydrogen production. The anionic-anionic co-doped BaTiO3 demonstrated enhanced visible light absorption and matching band edges for water splitting, making it a promising photocatalyst.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility and Molecular Characterization of Escherichia coli Recovered from Milk and Related Samples

Frederick Adzitey et al.

Summary: This study examined the occurrence and antimicrobial susceptibility of E. coli isolated from various samples related to cow milk. It found that 40.4% of the samples tested positive for E. coli, with the highest percentages found in milk and fecal samples. The E. coli strains showed high resistance to teicoplanin but susceptibility to chloramphenicol and azithromycin.

Visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye over bismuth-doped cerium oxide mesoporous nanoparticles

Sajith N. Veedu et al.

Summary: A series of Bi3+-doped ceria nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and showed effective photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye under visible light irradiation. Characterization through crystallography, microscopy, and spectroscopy confirmed the effectiveness of doping in the host lattice, along with the mesoporous nature of the nanoparticles. The shift of band gap energy from UV to visible region resulted in the photo degradation of the dye under visible light.

h-BN nanosheets doped with transition metals for environmental remediation; a DFT approach and molecular docking analysis

Jahanzeb Hassan et al.

Summary: The study found that BN nanosheets doped with transition metals (Co, Cu, Ni, Zr, and Bi) demonstrate efficient catalytic activity for wastewater management and higher bactericidal effects against S. aureus compared to E. coli. Experimental results correlate well with theoretical calculations, indicating that the diminution of band gap value is due to the substitutional TM atoms.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposites of MoS2 and BN doped with cobalt were synthesized to enhance their catalytic and antibacterial abilities for environmental health applications. Characterization techniques and Density Functional Theory were utilized to evaluate the chemical, structural, electrical, morphological, and optical features of the synthesized products. The Co-doped MoS2 and BN nanocomposites showed promising performance in catalytic degradation of methylene blue and antibacterial activity against both G(+) and G(-) strains, with potential as inhibitors of specific enzymes from S. aureus and E. coli.

Elimination of dyes by catalytic reduction in the absence of light: A review

Misbah Naz et al.

Summary: Developing novel technologies to treat wastewater with contaminated organic pollutants is globally important. In recent years, the use of nanocatalysts for removing organic pollutants through chemical reduction in the presence of NaBH4 has become a well-established method. Nanomaterials have shown great potential in improving water treatment technologies, particularly in catalytic reduction of dyes to produce less toxic products.

Nitrogen and bismuth-doped rice husk-derived carbon quantum dots for dye degradation and heavy metal removal

Khee Chung Hui et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon quantum dots doped with nitrogen and bismuth were synthesized from rice husk. The effects of doping were investigated by adjusting the nitrogen and bismuth sources, resulting in the formation of spherical carbon quantum dots with sizes less than 10 nm. The doped carbon quantum dots showed improved performance in methylene blue photodegradation and copper (II) removal, with N-RHCQDs and Bi-RHCQDs demonstrating the highest degradation performance and adsorption capacity.
