Yoann Birling et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Zao Ren An Shen (ZRAS) capsule, a Chinese herbal medicine, for the treatment of insomnia. The results showed that ZRAS capsule was not significantly different from placebo in terms of insomnia severity and adverse events. However, the dose of the product used in this study may have been lower than what is commonly used clinically, which may explain the lack of efficacy.

The efficacy of acupuncture for stable angina pectoris: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Mingxiao Yang et al.

Summary: Acupuncture treatment for patients with stable angina pectoris can reduce angina attack frequency, improve depression and anxiety levels, and is safe and effective, although there is no significant improvement in nitroglycerin use and angina intensity. Studies with better blinding and valid sham control group are still needed due to the low quality of evidence.

Summary: Insomnia is a common and debilitating condition that is associated with significant morbidity, reduced quality of life, and increased healthcare costs. The primary treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy, with newer hypnotic medications showing better safety profiles and longer-term efficacy compared to older medications. Individualized treatment decisions and balancing potential risks are crucial for the long-term management of chronic insomnia disorder.

Demographic, psychological, chronobiological, and work-related predictors of sleep disturbances during the COVID-19 lockdown in Italy

Federico Salfi et al.

Summary: During the lockdown in Italy, the majority of respondents reported a negative impact on their sleep, with female gender, advanced age, being a healthcare worker, living in southern Italy, longer confinement duration, and higher levels of depression, stress, and anxiety identified as the main predictors of sleep disturbances. Evening chronotypes were more vulnerable, while morning-type individuals showed a lower predisposition to sleep and psychological problems. Working from home was associated with less severe sleep disturbances.

Advances in the Treatment of Chronic Insomnia: A Narrative Review of New Nonpharmacologic and Pharmacologic Therapies

Russell Rosenberg et al.

Summary: Chronic insomnia affects 6-10% of the population and is characterized by difficulties with sleep initiation or maintenance at least three times per week for at least 3 months, along with daytime impairment. Despite misconceptions about treatment options, this complex disorder may not be remedied simply by getting more sleep, necessitating consideration of nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatments for efficacious outcomes. Recent advancements in treatment, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-I) and dual orexin receptor antagonist (DORA) pharmacologics, offer promising new approaches for improving outcomes in patients with chronic insomnia.
