Engineering luminescence switching and photochromic performance in tungsten bronze oxides for handwriting display based on variable valence ion strategy

Tong Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) oxides with intelligent upconversion (UC) luminescence modulation and photochromic (PC) effect were designed by introducing variable valence ion (Mo6+). The UC luminescence switching ratio and PC contrast could be significantly increased, and the real-time information encoding and dual-mode display capacity were realized. This work provides new insights for the design of terminal display devices.

Manipulating concentration quenching and thermal stability of Eu3+-activated NaYbF4 nanoparticles via phase transition strategy toward diversified applications

Peng Du et al.

Summary: Red-emitting phosphors with concentration quenching and unsatisfied thermal stability can be improved by utilizing phase transition to tailor the properties of Eu3+-activated NaYbF4 nanoparticles. The samples undergo a phase transition from cubic to hexagonal phase with increasing doping level, resulting in enhanced thermal stability and increased optimal doping content. Moreover, the local coordination environment of Eu3+ in the host lattice is changed, further confirmed by theoretical calculations.

Tunable upconversion luminescence in new Ho3+/Yb3+-doped SrBi4Ti4O15 photochromic ceramics for switching application

Jianqiang Bi et al.

Summary: This study reported a novel phosphor, Ho3+/Yb3+-doped SrBi4Ti4O15 ceramics, which exhibited strong UC luminescence and obvious PC reaction. The UC luminescence could be reversibly regulated by alternating visible light irradiation and thermal stimulus. The modulation process tightly relied on the irradiation time and thermal treatment processes, with excellent reproducibility. Additionally, luminescence manipulation by electric field was also explored as an alternative method.
