Quantum Critical Magnetic Excitations in Spin-1/2 and Spin-1 Chain Systems

Y. Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the magnetic excitations in CoNb2O6 and its spin-1 analog NiNb2O6 using low-temperature specific heat and thermal conductivity measurements. The results show that the thermal conductivity is suppressed around the quantum critical point, indicating the localized nature of the magnetic excitations. These findings highlight the significant role of frustration in determining the quantum critical magnetic excitations of spin chains.

Observation of a marginal Fermi glass

Fahad Mahmood et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of coherent excitations and photon echoes on the decay processes of doped silicon materials, extracting energy relaxation and decoherence rates close to the metal-insulator transition. The observed linear relationship between rates and excitation frequency, as well as counterintuitive behaviors at different temperatures and doping levels, suggest that the system behaves as a well-isolated electronic system controlled by electron-electron interactions. These observations contribute to a distinct phenomenology, known as the marginal Fermi glass, driven by the interplay of strong disorder and strong electron-electron interactions.

Duality and domain wall dynamics in a twisted Kitaev chain

C. M. Morris et al.

Summary: The terahertz spectroscopic study of quasi-one-dimensional ferromagnet CoNb2O6 reveals bond-dependent interactions similar to the one-dimensional honeycomb Kitaev spin liquid. The material is shown to be described by a 'twisted Kitaev chain' model, deviating from the Ising chain model. The ferromagnetic ground state arises from a compromise between two axes, leading to quantum motion of domain walls and potential for quantum spin liquid behavior in Co2+ magnets.

Finite-temperature photoemission in the extended Falicov-Kiinball model: a case study for Ta2NiSe5

Satoshi Ejima et al.

Summary: This study focused on examining the photoemission spectra in the extended Falicov-Kimball model at both zero and finite temperatures using the unbiased time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group technique. The research particularly looked at the excitonic insulator state observed in Ta2NiSe5, with simulations done in the thermodynamic limit with infinite boundary conditions. The results revealed a two-peak structure in the photoemission spectra at Fermi momenta k similar to +/- k(F) for model parameters suitable for Ta2NiSe5, indicating the development of an excitonic insulator of BCS-like type.

E8 Spectra of Quasi-One-Dimensional Antiferromagnet BaCo2V2O8 under Transverse Field

Haiyuan Zou et al.

Summary: The study presents V-51 NMR and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements on the quasi-1D antiferromagnet BaCo2V2O8 under transverse field. It reveals a 1D quantum critical point (QCP) at H-c(1D) approximately 4.7 T and provides an unambiguous experimental realization of the massive E-8 phase in the compound. The results offer a new experimental route for exploring the dynamics of quantum integrable systems and physics beyond integrability.

Hydrodynamic nonlinear response of interacting integrable systems

Michele Fava et al.

Summary: The study establishes a formalism for computing the nonlinear response of interacting integrable systems, showing results that are asymptotically exact in the hydrodynamic limit. Spatially resolved nonlinear responses can distinguish interacting integrable systems from noninteracting ones, with a method for computing finite-temperature Drude weights and identifying nonperturbative regimes of the nonlinear response.

Photon Echo from Lensing of Fractional Excitations in Tomonaga-Luttinger Spin Liquid

Zi-Long Li et al.

Summary: The theoretical study investigates the nonlinear optical response of Tomonaga-Luttinger spin liquids in the context of terahertz two-dimensional coherent spectroscopy. Specifically, the third-order nonlinear magnetic susceptibilities of the XXZ-type spin chain exhibit photon echo, demonstrating the potential of THz 2DCS in probing the dynamical properties of collective excitations in gapless many-body systems. Renormalization-group-irrelevant corrections to the fixed-point Hamiltonian result in dispersion and/or damping of wave packets, which can be sensitively detected by lensing and the photon echo phenomenon.

Efficient matrix product state methods for extracting spectral information on rings and cylinders

Maarten Van Damme et al.

Summary: This study introduces an efficient method for capturing excited states in finite systems with open boundary conditions based on the matrix product state formalism, allowing for computation of the spectral gap of quantum spin chains. Despite the explicit breaking of translation symmetry, momentum emerges as a good quantum number for labeling excitations on top of MPS ground states. This method is also successfully applied to systems with periodic boundary conditions.

Spectroscopic fingerprints of gapped quantum spin liquids, both conventional and fractonic

Rahul M. Nandkishore et al.

Summary: Gapped quantum spin liquids, both conventional and fractonic, can be unambiguously diagnosed experimentally using multidimensional coherent spectroscopy. Different types of spin liquids exhibit distinct features in linear and nonlinear responses, with fractonic phases being easier to distinguish compared to conventional ones, while certain types of fracton systems may require consideration of high-order nonlinear responses for clear diagnosis.
