Metal-organic framework-based sorbents in analytical sample preparation

Maryam Bazargan et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as an important material class in analytical applications due to their unique properties. The current limitation of MOFs in separation field lies in their chemical and thermal stabilities, which can be enhanced by ligand modification or cooperative combination with other materials. The role and applications of MOFs as sorbents in sample preparation have been widely studied, offering new solutions for future analytical sample preparation problems.

PEI functionalized NaCeF4:Tb3+/Eu3+ for photoluminescence sensing of heavy metal ions and explosive aromatic nitro compounds

Richa Singhaal et al.

Summary: An eco-friendly hydrothermal approach was utilized to synthesize hexagonal NaCeF4:Tb3+/Eu3+ nanophosphors, which were subsequently functionalized with amine rich polyethylenimine (PEI) to develop a luminescent nanoprobe capable of dual sensing functions for hazardous nitroaromatics and heavy metal ions. The synthesized nanomaterial exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity towards detection of PA and Fe3+ ions, with a low LOD and high Stern-Volmer quenching constant values. Additionally, a nanocomposite of reduced graphene oxide and nanophosphor was synthesized to study the energy transfer involving delocalized energy levels and the role of PEI in inhibiting quenching effects.
