Interiors of Terrestrial Planets in Metric-Affine Gravity

Aleksander Kozak et al.

Summary: Using a semiempirical approach, this study demonstrates that modified gravity has an impact on the internal properties of terrestrial planets, including their core, mantle, and core-mantle boundary. These findings are also applied to modeling a two-layer exoplanet under Palatini f(R) gravity.

Weak-field limit of f (R) gravity to unify peculiar white dwarfs

Surajit Kalita et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in studying the sub- and super-Chandrasekhar limiting mass white dwarfs, which are potential candidates to produce different types of supernovae. Modifying Einstein's gravity theory with f(R) gravity seems to be one of the best choices to explain these peculiar white dwarfs. This paper derives the weak-field limit of f(R) gravity and uses it to study the structures of sub- and super-Chandrasekhar limiting mass white dwarfs.

Searching for dark energy with the Sun

Ippocratis D. Saltas et al.

Summary: This article discusses general extensions of general relativity that predict a fifth force, which can be tested through precision tests on the solar equilibrium structure. The authors explain how different regions of the Sun can be used to test gravity and demonstrate that the fifth force leaves a signature on the solar sound speed. They also place constraints on the strength of the fifth-force coupling based on observational errors. The findings have significant implications for understanding the nature of gravity and can be applied to theories beyond general relativity.

Do we need dense matter equation of state in curved spacetime for neutron stars?

Jianing Li et al.

Summary: Neutron stars serve as natural laboratories for studying dense matter, and predicting their structure requires an accurate equation of state (EoS). Previous studies have suggested that the curved spacetime effect, specifically gravitational time dilation, significantly impacts the EoS and the maximum mass limit of neutron stars. However, this work demonstrates that for studying the hydrostatic equilibrium of dense matter within the framework of general relativity and relativistic fluid dynamics, the EoS should be the same as that computed in flat spacetime to ensure consistency with local thermodynamic relations and energy-momentum conservation. The study proposes an alternative version of the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation that allows the use of field theoretical methods to directly input the computed EoS, which may facilitate studying the EoS of dense matter through deep learning.

Pre-main sequence evolution of low-mass stars in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity

Merce Guerrero et al.

Summary: This study investigates three aspects of the early-evolutionary phases in low-mass stars within Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld (EiBI) gravity, including the Hayashi tracks, the minimum mass required for the main sequence, and the maximum mass for a fully convective star. The results show a dependence of these quantities on both the EiBI parameter and the star's central density.

Axion instability supernovae

Jeremy Sakstein et al.

Summary: This study investigates the equilibrium of new particles coupled to the Standard Model in stellar cores and their astrophysical consequences for massive stars. Specifically focusing on axions in the cosmological triangle, it finds that axion production can drive a new stellar instability leading to explosive nuclear burning or star disruption. The study predicts a shift in the upper black hole mass gap and suggests that axion-instability supernovae are more common and observable targets for the James Webb Space Telescope.

Black holes in f(Q) gravity

Fabio D'Ambrosio et al.

Summary: The field equations of f(Q) gravity for spherically symmetric and stationary metric-affine spacetimes were systematically studied, showing that beyond-GR solutions are possible contrary to previous claims. Specific criteria were formulated to determine conditions under which GR solutions or beyond-GR solutions are obtainable. Perturbative corrections to the Schwarzschild solution were made for various choices of f(Q), including a dynamical affine connection, and an exact beyond-GR vacuum solution was presented. The method was also applied to f(T) gravity for similar solutions without a dynamical connection.

Stability criterion for white dwarfs in Palatini f(R) gravity

Lupamudra Sarmah et al.

Summary: Recent observations suggest the violation of Chandrasekhar mass limit in supernovae and the existence of white dwarfs with super- and sub-Chandrasekhar limiting masses. In this study, we investigate these objects using Palatini f(R) gravity in the context of general relativistic extensions. We determine the limiting masses and dynamical instability criteria for white dwarfs in this gravitational theory. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the conventional positivity condition remains valid for stability in Palatini gravity.

Gravitational Wave in f(R) Gravity: Possible Signature of Sub- and Super-Chandrasekhar Limiting-mass White Dwarfs

Surajit Kalita et al.

Summary: Researchers have predicted many sub- and super-Chandrasekhar limiting-mass white dwarfs based on the observations of luminosity of Type Ia supernovae, thus forming a peculiar class of white dwarfs. These two peculiar classes of white dwarfs, along with regular white dwarfs, can be explained by a single form of f(R) gravity, which mainly affects high-density regimes. Detecting these white dwarfs directly in gravitational wave astronomy could help constrain or rule out various modified theories of gravity, linking theory with possible observations through gravitational waves.

Existence of Chandrasekhar's limit in generalized uncertainty white dwarfs

Arun Mathew et al.

Summary: Chandrasekhar's limit has been crucial in astronomical observations, but recent theoretical investigations show that gravitational collapse of white dwarfs can be prevented for arbitrarily high masses beyond the limit with the effect of quantum gravity. Attempts to restore the Chandrasekhar limit have been found inadequate. This paper resolves the issue by analyzing dynamical instability in general relativity, confirming the limit's existence and suggesting the potential of gravitational collapse beyond it.
