Time Series Phase Unwrapping Based on Graph Theory and Compressed Sensing

Zhang-Feng Ma et al.

Summary: This article proposes a new time series phase unwrapping approach to improve the accuracy of unwrapping by reducing phase gradients and correcting unwrapping errors. The all-pairs-shortest-path algorithm is used in the 2D spatial domain to enhance temporal coherence and approach phase continuity assumption. The PU error correction problem is formulated as a compressed sensing problem and phase ambiguity cycles are estimated using integer linear programming.

Go Extra Miles: An Additional Error Correction Procedure Aimed to Further Improve Phase Unwrapping Accuracy and Reduce Creep Model Uncertainty

Zhangfeng Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a new algorithm is proposed to overcome the limitations of existing phase unwrapping error correction methods, by integrating decorrelation phase correction, triplet phase closure (TPC) test, and integer linear programming (ILP). The validity of the method is demonstrated using synthetic data and real data from the Central San Andreas Fault creeping section.

Complex Coseismic and Postseismic Faulting During the 2021 Northern Thessaly (Greece) Earthquake Sequence Illuminated by InSAR Observations

Jiuyuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coseismic and postseismic deformation of three earthquakes that occurred in Thessaly, Greece, from March 3 to March 12, 2021. It reveals the activation of at least four unmapped low-angle normal faults and a ramp-flat structure by the seismic sequence. The analysis also highlights the control of slip extent and rupture termination by intersections between main and secondary faults, as well as the encouragement of rupture reinitiation of later events by static stress transfers induced by earlier events.

Characterizing and correcting phase biases in short-term, multilooked interferograms

Yasser Maghsoudi et al.

Summary: Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is commonly used to measure deformation of the Earth's surface. However, using multiple multilooked shorter interferograms to overcome coherence loss can introduce a bias in the interferometric phase. To correct this bias, researchers propose a method based on constructing daisy chain sums of short-term interferograms and linearly relating the bias in an interferogram to the sum of biases in shorter interferograms.

NON-CLOSURE PHASE OF MULTI-LOOK INSAR TRIPLETS: A NOVEL PHASE BIAS MITIGATION METHOD

Summary: This study proposes a method to estimate and mitigate phase bias effects in multi-look SAR interferograms using exclusively ML InSAR phase triplets. The method assumes that the phase bias is solely dependent on the temporal baseline of the interferogram.

Estimating three-dimensional coseismic deformations with the SM-VCE method based on heterogeneous SAR observations: Selection of homogeneous points and analysis of observation combinations

Jun Hu et al.

Summary: The proposed SMAD method aims to improve the accuracy of 3-D deformations estimated by the SM-VCE method, especially near the surface rupture area. Additionally, the study investigates the impact of the number and type of independent observations on the accuracy of 3-D deformations, introducing the concept of deformation dilution of precision. The results suggest that the type of observations incorporated can significantly influence the accuracy of 3-D deformations compared to the number of observations.

An Alternative Approach for Constraining 3D-Displacements With InSAR, Applied to a Fault-Bounded Groundwater Entrainment Field in California

K. D. Murray et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of elastic Green's functions in recovering three-dimensional displacement fields from InSAR observations, reducing the need for prior assumptions and coupling horizontal displacements. By applying these methods to data from the Coachella Valley, it was found that artificial groundwater recharge in 2017 led to significant ground displacements and potential changes in fault activity.

Geodetic Model of the March 2021 Thessaly Seismic Sequence Inferred from Seismological and InSAR Data

Vincenzo De Novellis et al.

Summary: This study proposes a geodetic model to explain the Thessaly seismic sequence in March 2021, successfully detecting surface deformation and constraining kinematics using InSAR techniques. The activation of unknown blind faults in the region is identified, and Coulomb stress transfer analysis and pore pressure modeling indicate a domino effect in the sequence development. The lack of historical earthquake records and surface features from past faulting complicates seismic hazard estimation in the area, highlighting the usefulness of InSAR data analysis and modeling in understanding rupture characteristics.

Summary: A new time series InSAR method based on a strain model is proposed, which can effectively reduce decorrelations and preserve deformation signals. Simulations and data analysis show that the proposed method is able to reduce decorrelations and simultaneously retain surface deformation signals.

The Use of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar for Isolating the Contribution of Major Shocks: The Case of the March 2021 Thessaly, Greece, Seismic Sequence

Cristiano Tolomei et al.

Summary: The study utilized the InSAR technique to analyze the surface deformation caused by a series of earthquakes near Tyrnavos village in Greece, successfully isolating the displacement effects of mainshocks and aftershocks. Separating the surface effects caused by mainshocks and major aftershocks in a short-term seismic sequence is uncommon but achieved in this research.
