12b,24b-Diborahexabenzo[a,c,fg,l,n,qr]pentacene: A Low-LUMO Boron-Doped Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon

Carina Muetzel et al.

Summary: We report a new synthesis of a pristine boron-doped nanographene, which was designed to have a low LUMO energy level and a narrow band gap based on its precise geometry and B-doping arrangement. Our synthesis method, involving consecutive C-H borylations of an alkene, exhibits strong absorption in the visible region and emission in the near-infrared region. Furthermore, the synthesized compound possesses a very low LUMO level and offers a new approach to the synthesis of pristine B-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Tuning the sumanene receptor structure towards the development of potentiometric sensors

Artur Kasprzak et al.

Summary: This study reports the first application of a sumanene derivative in the potentiometric recognition of caesium cations, showing near theoretical sensitivity and a detection limit for 4 μM Cs+. The structure of the sumanene receptor was carefully adjusted for compatibility with polyvinyl chloride plasticized membranes of potentiometric sensors.

The regioisomeric effect on the excited-state fate leading to room-temperature phosphorescence or thermally activated delayed fluorescence in a dibenzophenazine-cored donor-acceptor-donor system

Takumi Hosono et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the effects of regioisomerism and substituents on the excited state of a molecular scaffold, and explored the emission behavior of the developed compounds in TADF and RTP. The results showed that the developed emitters achieved high external quantum efficiencies in RTP-based OLEDs.

Disaggregation of a sumanene-containing fluorescent probe towards highly sensitive and specific detection of caesium cations

Artur Kasprzak et al.

Summary: A sumanene derivative modified with triphenylbenzene units was found to exhibit aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE). A disaggregation process was observed after the addition of cesium cations (Cs+), leading to the design of a fluorescent probe for specific, efficient, and rapid cesium recognition.
