Patient compliance with Twin Block appliance during treatment of Class II malocclusion: a randomized controlled trial on two check-up prescriptions

Erik Frilund et al.

Summary: This study compared the impact of two different check-up intervals on patient compliance and treatment outcome during treatment with Twin Block appliances. The results showed that a 4-week check-up interval did not improve treatment outcome or increase wear-time compared to a 6-week check-up interval. The mean wear-time was 6.5 hours per day.

Treatment and posttreatment effects of Herbst appliance therapy on trabecular structure of the mandible using fractal dimension analysis

Mehmet Amuk et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Herbst therapy on the trabecular structure of the condyle and angulus mandible using fractal dimension analysis (FD-A) accompanied by skeletal cephalometric changes. The results showed that Herbst therapy can change the trabecular structure of the condyles and increase the structural complexity of the angulus mandible after fixed orthodontic treatment.

Identification of Type H Vessels in Mice Mandibular Condyle

H. Li et al.

Summary: Type H vessels, which are strongly positive for CD31 and endomucin, have been found to regulate the coupling of angiogenesis and osteogenesis in long bones. Abundant type H vessels were discovered in the subchondral bone of mouse condylar head, and their presence was positively correlated with bone formation. Deferoxamine mesylate, by activating HIF-1 alpha signaling pathways, was able to prevent osteopenia in the condyle induced by botulinum toxin type A, suggesting a potential therapeutic strategy for improving osteogenesis.

Comparison of objective wear time between monoblock and twin-block appliances measured by microsensor

Cansin Kutay et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the objective compliance levels in skeletal Class II patients with mandibular retrognathia wearing monoblock and twin-block appliances. Results showed that patients' wear times were generally less than the prescribed time by orthodontists, with a regular use rate of 75%, and compliance levels decreased throughout the follow-up appointments.
