Overexpression of galactinol synthase 1 from Solanum commersonii (ScGolS1) confers freezing tolerance in transgenic potato

Feiyan He et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the ectopic expression of ScGolS1 gene from Solanum commersonii could significantly improve freezing tolerance in transgenic potato plants by inducing the ethylene and CBF signaling pathways and altering sugar composition. These results provide genetic resources and theoretical support for freezing tolerance breeding in potato.

Abscisic acid insensitive 4 interacts with ICE1 and JAZ proteins to regulate ABA signaling-mediated cold tolerance in apple

Jian-Ping An et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated that the AP2/ERF family protein MdABI4 integrates jasmonic acid and abscisic acid signals to modulate cold tolerance through the JAZ-ABI4-ICE1-CBF regulatory cascade in apple. Furthermore, the negative modulation of MdABI4-improved cold tolerance by MdJAZ1 and MdJAZ2 was found to be through interference with the interaction between MdABI4 and MdICE1 proteins. These findings provide insights into the crosstalk between jasmonic acid and abscisic acid signals in response to cold stress.

Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses reveal that exogenous strigolactones alleviate the response of melon root to cadmium stress

Xuemiao Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of exogenous strigolactones (SLs) on root formation under cadmium (Cd) stress in melon plants, and revealed the protective mechanisms through transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses. The results showed that SLs could enhance root vigor, suppress oxidative damage, and alleviate Cd stress by regulating gene expression and metabolite levels.

Ethylene increases the cold tolerance of apple via the MdERF1B-MdCIbHLH1 regulatory module

Yicheng Wang et al.

Summary: Ethylene positively modulates apple responses to cold stress by inducing the expression of MdERF1B, which enhances the cold tolerance of apple seedlings and Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings through upregulating the expression of cold-responsive genes. MdERF1B interacts with MdCIbHLH1 to regulate ethylene production and integrate the cold and ethylene signaling pathways in apple.

The genome of Shanputao (Vitis amurensis) provides a new insight into cold tolerance of grapevine

Yi Wang et al.

Summary: Vitis amurensis (Shanputao), the most cold-tolerant species of grape, has a genome assembly revealing a common ancestor with V. vinifera and potential gene expansions contributing to cold tolerance. Transcriptome analysis identified 17 genes involved in cold signal transduction with different mechanisms for low temperature and freezing responses. A genome-wide association study highlighted a phosphoglycerate kinase gene implication in winter bud freezing resistance.

Galactinol synthase gene 4 (CsGolS4) increases cold and drought tolerance in Cucumis sativus L. by inducing RFO accumulation and ROS scavenging

Si Ma et al.

Summary: The CsGolS4 gene in cucumber is significantly induced by both cold and drought stresses, with CsGolS4-overexpression plants showing higher RFO contents and suppressed ROS levels, leading to increased tolerance to cold and drought stresses. Conversely, CsGolS4-RNAi transgenic plants exhibit increased vulnerability under stress conditions.

Regulations of m6A methylation on tomato fruit chilling injury

Chunmei Bai et al.

Summary: The study identified a relationship between chilling injury in tomato fruit and N-6-methyladenosine (m(6)A) methylation of transcripts in plant hormone pathways, involving various enzymes and transcription factors. The findings provide a deeper understanding of the regulatory mechanism of chilling injury and post-harvest cold storage of tomato fruit.
