Mapping fallow fields using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 archives over farming-pastoral ecotone of Northern China with Google Earth Engine

Deji Wuyun et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-metric dataset was established using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 archives to map fallow fields in the farming-pastoral ecotone of Northern China. The Random Forest classifier was employed to classify cropped and fallow fields, and a 10 m resolution fallow map for 2020 was generated. The results demonstrate the potential applicability of Sentinel archives for monitoring and mapping managing patterns of agricultural land in the region.

Agricultural Land Abandonment and Retirement Mapping in the Northern China Crop-Pasture Band Using Temporal Consistency Check and Trajectory-Based Change Detection Approach

Zhenrong Du et al.

Summary: Agricultural land abandonment and retirement are important factors leading to different types of land use and cover change. This study developed a new framework using Google Earth Engine (GEE) to distinguish between abandonment and retirement and detect their extent and exact year. The results showed significant spatiotemporal patterns of abandonment and retirement in the study area.

A coarse-to-fine boundary refinement network for building footprint extraction from remote sensing imagery

Haonan Guo et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel boundary refinement network (CBR-Net) for accurately extracting building footprints from remote sensing imagery. The CBR-Net progressively refines building predictions in a coarse-to-fine manner, while enhancing the model's ability to perceive and refine building edges. Experimental results demonstrate that CBR-Net outperforms other algorithms on various building datasets.

Automated building extraction using satellite remote sensing imagery

Qintao Hu et al.

Summary: A new method called Deep Automatic Building Extraction Network (DABE-Net) is proposed, which constructs building-blocks using squeeze-and excitation (SE) operations and the residual recurrent convolutional neural network (RRCNN), and introduces an attention mechanism to improve segmentation accuracy. In addition, a multi-scale segmentation loss function is developed to handle small buildings.

Learning Statistical Texture for Semantic Segmentation

Lanyun Zhu et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel Statistical Texture Learning Network (STL-Net) is proposed for semantic segmentation, which utilizes low-level texture features and statistical information for the task. Two modules, Texture Enhance Module (TEM) and Pyramid Texture Feature Extraction Module (PTFEM), are introduced to enhance texture details and extract statistical texture features effectively. Extensive experiments show that the proposed STL-Net achieves state-of-the-art performance on three semantic segmentation benchmarks: Cityscapes, PASCAL Context and ADE20K.
