Mechanistic insight into the charge carrier separation and molecular oxygen activation of manganese doping BiOBr hollow microspheres

Zuming He et al.

Summary: High-efficiency separation of photogenerated charges and molecular oxygen activation is crucial for the photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants. However, the understanding of the impact of metal substitution on charge separation and oxygen activation is limited. In this study, manganese-doped BiOBr hollow microspheres were synthesized and characterized to investigate the effect of Mn doping. It was found that Mn doping induced oxygen vacancies and served as active sites for catalytic reactions, leading to enhanced degradation of crystal violet. The study provides insights into the rational design of highly active photocatalysts and the mechanisms of charge separation and oxygen activation.

Visible-light-enhanced photocatalytic activity of BaTiO3/γ-Al2O3 composite photocatalysts for photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride

Chuan Yu et al.

Summary: A polyacrylamide gel method combined with low temperature sintering technology was used to fabricate BaTiO3/gamma-Al2O3 composite photocatalysts with excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under simulated sunlight. The effects of BaTiO3/ gamma-Al2O3 mass percentages, drug concentrations and pH values on photocatalytic activity were investigated. The optimum conditions were found to be 5 wt% BaTiO3/ gamma-Al2O3, 50 mg/L drug concentration, and pH 6.77. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of BaTiO3/ gamma-Al2O3 was attributed to the defect states in alumina, interfacial defects between barium titanate and alumina, and the type II band arrangement structure.

Morphology modulation of hollow-shell ZnSn(OH)6 for enhanced photodegradation of methylene blue

Yufen Gu et al.

Summary: The morphology of ZnSn(OH)(6) nanoparticles plays a decisive role in their photocatalytic performance. In this study, shell-like hollow ZnSn(OH)(6) nanocubes with uniform particle size distribution and superior dispersion were successfully prepared through a hydrothermal method under suitable conditions. The effects of hydrothermal time, temperature, pH, and surfactant on the microscopic morphology and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye were investigated. It was found that the differences in morphology led to differences in physicochemical properties, such as bandgap and charge transfer resistance, and ultimately affected the photodegradation efficiency. By adjusting the hydrothermal parameters or using different surfactants, the microscopic morphology and photocatalytic performance of ZnSn(OH)(6) could be effectively improved.
