Trends of Venous Thromboembolism After Total Hip Arthroplasty in the United States: Analysis From 2011 to 2019

Amil R. Agarwal et al.

Summary: Since 2011, there has been a significant reduction in the incidence and economic burden associated with venous thromboembolism (VTE) after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The prescription of aspirin and direct oral anticoagulants has increased, while the use of non-aspirin anticoagulants has decreased.

Clinical effectiveness and safety of aspirin and other anticoagulants for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis after major orthopedic surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Leonard Christianto Singjie et al.

Summary: This study found no significant difference between aspirin and other anticoagulants as thromboprophylactic agents in preventing venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients who underwent major orthopedic surgeries. The analysis of the data from eight high-quality studies showed that the incidence of VTE, as well as mortality, bleeding events, and wound complications, was similar between aspirin and other anticoagulants.
